Dell Precision 5530 upgrade to 64GB Ram

Computer currently has 32 GB ram and works fine.   Bought (2) Corsair Vengeance PC4-23400 (2933MHz) memory sticks.  Powered off the 5530.  Disconnected from dock.

Opened unit and removed the (2) 16GB memory sticks.   Installed the new memory sticks.   Unit won't boot.  No nothing on the screen.   Tried each stick individually and same story.

Am I missing something?   The Corsair is brand new.

Firmware is up to date.

Would appreciate any ideas

Thanks.

Okay, good, that processor supports up to 64 GB of RAM.

It's odd that Crucial doesn't list 64 GB as max for this laptop, but mistakes do happen. Dell lists support for 2 X 32 GB DDR4 2666 MHz for maximum of 64 GB. I also found confirmation from some forum posts of users who successfully installed 64 GB in that laptop.

This 64 GB kit from Crucial should work

After you install the RAM and boot, the system may rest on a black screen, but leave it there for 30 minutes or so. Sometimes it takes a while for BIOS to recognize and accept new RAM.

Whenever touching components or working inside a computer, wear a grounded wrist strap, also called anti-static wrist strap, ESD wrist strap, or ground bracelet. It's a cheap and sensible precaution. Rest the laptop on an anti-static mat or at least a reasonable alternative such as corrugated cardboard.

Corsair Vengeance is too aggressive for your system. It is used in gaming systems and systems for overclocking. Many users have trouble when trying Corsair Vengeance in Precision, Inspiron and XPS systems.

The most compatible RAM is Crucial.

Just in case, you could try unplugging the charger, disconnecting the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds to discharge all power. Then remove the CMOS battery for 30 minutes or so. Replace the CMOS battery, plug in the charger and try to boot. It may rest on a black screen, but leave it there for 30 minutes or so. Sometimes it takes a while for BIOS to recognize and accept new RAM. If that doesn't work, then buy something other than Corsair Vengeance, other than performance RAM.

Thanks for the response.   I have a precision mobile workstation 5530.

I tried to get help a crucial and they were insistent that my 5530 only allowed (2) 16GB max.

Do you have crucial part number?

Looked on Dell's site and they want $200+ per 32GB SODIMM

What is your processor (CPU)? You can find out via right-click This PC and select Properties. Then, copy the Processor line and paste it here to avoid transcription errors.
