Command Update is buggy

Dell sent an email notification that a driver update was available for my system, but when I ran Command Update, it indicated everything was up to date. The "Drivers and Downloads" page on Dell's site confirmed that the new driver was appropriate for updating my system.

After manually updateding the driver, I confirmed in Device Manager it had been installed. I then ran Command Update again. This time Command Update even failed to register that the drive had been updated - it showed only the old driver version!

I called ProSupport who confirmed that "sometimes" Command Update shows a false negative - i.e., it fails to identify available (e.g., driver) updates. Apparently this is a known issue at Dell.

I see no point in running buggy software, so I'm going to uninstall Command Update, and going forward, periodically check the "Drivers and Downloads" page on Dell's site.

Hopefully this will help others in the Community.

Command | Update 4.4.0 is buggy and confirmed as such by Dell ProSupport.

It's a shame. This could have been a useful app, but as it stands, it's virtually worthless, since it can't reliably perform basic functions (see below).

> It fails to report, or seemingly acknowledge the correct current version of installed drivers.

> More importantly, it fails to show when (even critical) applicable updates are available for installation.

We've now replicated this issue over a span of a week with 3 different sets of driver updates.

Solution:

0) Dell fixes their buggy software. Failing that:

1) Uninstall Command | Update

2) Periodically check Dell's Support page for driver / firmware updates, sort by Descending Date, and note required updates. Also note date last checked.

3) Manually install updates.

4) Lather, rinse, repeat.

Thank you. FYI, Command Update now (at least) shown the correct version - i.e., that the driver has been updated, but I assume the original issue of false-negatives still persists.
