Will Dell T5820 PC run Nvme M.2 PCI-E Gen 4x4 SSD like Samsung 980 PRO/PM9A1 SSD's with this card in the PCI-E slot full speed?
I have a Dell T5820 PC. I bought a Dell SSD M.2 PCIe X2 Solid State Storage Adapter Card 9C5W2.
Will my T5820 PC be able to run the new Nvme M.2 PCI-E Gen 4x4 SSD like the Samsung 980 PRO or PM9A1 SSD's with this card in the PCI-E slot at full speed 6000--7000MB/s? I am running Windows 11. Also, I have a Toshiba 1TB M.2 Nvme SSD in the front Flex Bay.
Thanks in advance.

Your computer will run with that Dell card and a Gen 4 PCIe NVMe ssd (although you probably need to make changes to your BIOS). But you won't achieve any performance boost compared to a Gen 3.0 PCIe ssd like (Samsung 970 EVO plus). I have done all these experiments. So my suggestion is not to waste your money on Gen 4 NVMe drives. This is just because these precision workstations like t7920, t7820 and t5820 are all Gen 3 compatible.

Hello,
I may be wrong, but the 5820 is a pcie 3.0 system so... you will not exceed 3.0 speeds and not take full advantage of those gen4 samsung

Hello @AlanIM, as mazzinia pointed out, all PCIe slots in the 5820 are gen 3.0. However, you can striped your drives as RAID 0 to improve speed. Just keep in mind that most applications and games are in random 4k block, not sequential. Real world performance will be different from those synthetic benchmark.

mazzinia & Chinco de Oro thanks for your replies.
I am just wondering which model Dell Workstation will support a Nvme M.2 PCI-E Gen 4x4 SSD? I checked one of the newer models like T3650 with 11th gen Intel CPU's and they DO have PCIE Gen 4 SSD capability. However, they are much less robust build and only have 1 year warranty. I only consider the T5820, 7820, or 7920 series because they have a 3 year Warranty/Tech Support.
I will just wait until the new T series (T5830?) are available. They are sure to have 11th Gen CPU's and PCIE Gen 4 SSD capability.

@Rain_HH Cold you share the BIOS updates needed? I added a Dell SSD M.2 PCIE 2x SSD adapter with a samsung 980 m.2 drive. The BIOS see the drive, but when I boot to install the OS, the drive is not seen. At the moment the M.2 SSD is the only drive in the system.

@BadRobot999 my bios setting is mainly changing the SATA operation to AHCI.
Your drive is fine. There are some steps to do first to be detectable.
First go to Intel or Dell website and download Intel IRST drivers and put it on a separate usb. With this start installing Windows when you reach to a place that the drive is not detectable, install the drivers first by browsing to the location of the drivers and then refresh when you installed them. It should show up. The procedure is here:https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-ca/000132969/how-to-load-intel-rapid-storage-technology-driver-to-install-os-on-nvme-memory
