Question About Using 6 RAM Sticks in Dell Precision 5820 with Xeon W-2145

Hi everyone,

I’m currently using a Dell Precision 5820 Tower with a Xeon W-2145 processor and 64GB of RAM (4 sticks, 16GB each). I’m considering upgrading my system by adding 2 more 16GB RAM sticks, which would bring the total to 96GB across 6 sticks.

However, I have some concerns about how the system will handle this configuration:

  1. Has anyone here used a similar configuration (6 RAM sticks in quad-channel systems)? If so, how does it perform?
  2. Will it still utilize quad-channel mode for 4 sticks and switch the remaining 2 sticks to dual-channel?
  3. Or will it downgrade all sticks to dual-channel, affecting overall performance?

I primarily use this system for AI training and machine learning tasks, which are memory-intensive and rely heavily on maximizing RAM bandwidth and performance.

Any advice, experiences, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
