Precision 3650 Tower PSU upgrade
Hi there.
My Precision 3650 Tower has a 460W PSU and I would like to upgrade it so I can upgrade the GPU card. It would appear dell do not offer any upgrade of PSU directly so I was wondering is the PSU in a 3650 Tower a standard ATX design and I could upgrade to a no dell make like evga or corsair branded one?
Has anyone upgraded their 3650 Tower PSU yet?
TIA

The PSU is exactly the same size as the Dell 460W and fits very well.

Correct, but the corners of the inlet with the Dell PSU were not being used as an inlet as the fan was only 80mm in diameter.
with a larger fan the whole inlet is being used with better airflow.
A circle diameter of 80mm has a area of 5027 mm²
a square of 80mm x 80mm has a area of 6400 mm² (with a larger fan)
The 120mm fan on the new PSU covers the whole inlet and from corner to corner, the length of the diagonal is 113.14mm so using a fan of 80mm (as the dell on has) shows the flaw of a 80x80 inlet with a 80mm fan!

Try this forum post as the part number for a Dell PSU is given and another user did install a Corsair TX 750 with good results.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I had seen that post and the fell 1000w would suffice, though as for the Corsair 750 this is below the output for the combined power on the 5v and 3v.
I guess I need to do some homework for my setup.

I'm in no rush as yet and may go down the Corsair RM850e or RM1000e models. I will post any other findings if applicable.

Corsair is a good choice. Note that all 750w, 850w, and 1000w have the same combined output of 150w on +3.3v and +5v rails but the RMx series will provide higher max load of 25A on those rails instead of 20A from the RMe.

thank for the info, thats good to know. my 460w dell psu is 130w and most other manufacturers of PSUs dont have this output of 130w until you go really big.
I'll take a look at the RMx series too though for price for what I need the RMe series is probably all I need. I'm really just wanting a decent, but not high end GPU Card.

I just checked the specs on the RMx
there are two versions of it. a 2018 version with 25A rails, and a newer version with only 20A rails (same as the RMe.
I've ordered the RMe 850W as then dimensions are exactly the same as the Dell 460W. the RMx 850w are slightly longer in size.
I'll let the community know how I get on once I have installed the new PSU.
Thanks for all the help.

I also hope that you will be successful in the reference case. Force the PSU will adapt to the computer case, It may be good if replace the case, in case of the motherboard is suitable?

I can confirm the Corsair RMe850w fits perfectly into the Precision 3650 Tower. I will upload some photos when I get a chance.
