Head phone jack not working

Hi,  I am having problem with the headphone jack on my Precision 5820 Tower.

During a zoom meeting, I can listen on my 2 piece in-ear earbuds headphone, when other people are speaking.

Unfortunately, the other parties cannot hear me when I am speaking into the in-built mic.

Any help would be appreciated.

Realtek Audio is the description of audio device but Waves Maxx Audio Pro is the user interface with configuration and utility to setup your input devices and output sound enhancement.

If your audio is not working properly, you can reinstall the Realtek Audio driver and Microsoft Store will automatically install Waves Maxx.  You can also download and extract the Realtek Audio driver to update driver manually.

From Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controller, right click on Realtek Audio and select Uninstall Device.  A popup screen will appear, tick the box Attempt to remove the driver for this device and click on uninstall.  When it finish, restart your machine and give it a few minutes, Windows should reinstall your Realtek driver for you.  A few more minutes, notification from bottom right will let you know that Waves Maxx just got install.  Now, you can simply plug in your device (headset) and a popup asking you to confirm what was just plug in, select headset, your built-in mic (from headset) should be recognize and working.

If none of the installation happen (because of your system settings).  You can manually right click on High Definition Audio Driver and select Update Driver.  Choose Browse my computer for drivers and point it to the extracted Realtek Audio Driver.  Again, give it time to update Waves Maxx for you before plug in the headset.

Sometimes, it's a user error, so check to make sure if you have a headset with mic built-in before going through the whole process.

Thanks Chino de Oro,

I updated the drivers, and the in-built mic is working fine now.

Check your Waves Maxx Audio Pro settings to see if you select headset as output device.

There is no built in microphone on a desktop. You will have to add one.

See manual- Dell Precision 5820 Tower Owner's Manual | Dell US

Thanks for the reply.

My device setup does not show any Waves Maxx Audio Pro.

The only available output is  Speakers/Headphones (Realtek Audio), which I have selected as my output...

Does that mean I need to install the driver you mentioned?

I'm aware of that.

What I am referring to, is the built-in mic attached to my 2 piece in-ear earbuds headphone.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

Just downloaded the driver and I will give it a try later in the day and will keep you informed whether this solved my problem.

Thanks again
