Dell Precision 5820 Tower

I just ran an update and am now receiving an error message of 2 amber and 6 while lights.  The error reportedly means a motherboard chipset error.

Does anyone know if the update is related to this error?  Also, does this error message imply that the motherboard is bad or a component on it is?

Thanks.

The chipset is a component on the MB. If it is indeed having a problem then the cure is to replace the MB. But as @mazzinia has posted, which update did you install and was the system working properly up until that update? If it was a BIOS update that could be the source of the problem if the update failed at some point.

To recover BIOS from hard drive:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Press the F2 key on the keyboard several times until the computer enters the BIOS setup.
  3. Look for the group Maintenance and the page BIOS Recovery in the BIOS setup.
  4. Identify the BIOS Recovery from hard drive field which should be enabled. (If it is not enabled, set it to enabled.)
  5. Change the BIOS Auto-Recovery field from the default which is disabled to enabled.
  6. Identify the Always perform Integrity check field and change from the default which is disabled to enabled.
  7. Save changes and reboot the machine.

To perform CMOS reset:

  • Unplug machine from power
  • Press and hold power button for 15 seconds to discharge residuary electricity.
  • Open side panel and locate a blue jumper on PSWD
  • Move blue jumper from PSWD to CMOS for 5 sec. and return it back to PSWD.
  • Close panel and attach power and boot machine up.
  • Upon appearing of Dell logo (after a few cycling restart), accessing BIOS and reconfigure settings to match with hardware environments.
