To build an on-premises storage solution for approximately 1 Petabyte (PB) of data

We are currently planning to build an on-premises storage solution for approximately 1 Petabyte (PB) of data and would appreciate your assistance in designing an optimal configuration and providing a detailed quotation. The use case primarily involves storing documents of at least 1 MB each, with a requirement for data redundancy, scalability, and moderate access performance.

Key Requirements:

  • Storage Capacity: ~1 Petabyte (usable)

  • Data Type: Primarily document files, each with a minimum size of 1MB

  • Performance: Moderate access performance (suitable for document retrieval and storage)

  • Redundancy: High data redundancy/fault tolerance (e.g., RAID6 or erasure coding)

  • Scalability: Future-ready infrastructure with expansion capabilities

  • High Availability: Desired, but not mandatory

  • Access Protocols: Support for standard file access protocols (e.g., NFS, SMB/CIFS, or object storage interface)

Request for Proposal:

Please assist us with the following:

  1. Recommended Hardware Configuration:

    • Server models and specifications (CPU, memory, NICs)

    • Storage controller details

    • Disk type (HDD vs SSD mix, drive size, number of drives)

    • Chassis/enclosure options and rack space requirements

  2. Redundancy and Fault Tolerance:

    • Proposed RAID configuration or alternative (e.g., erasure coding)

    • Power supply and cooling recommendations

    • Backup and disaster recovery options

  3. Software Stack:

    • Storage management software

    • Operating system or storage platform (e.g., Ceph, ZFS, TrueNAS, etc.)

    • Licensing and support packages
