PowerVault TL2000 tape library & drive LT05 HH

Hi all,

I have checked the firmware of my PowerVault TL2000 tape, it is 9t30 which is up-to-date. I am looking to update the drive LT05 HH 's firmware which is outdated and has the version D2AD. I can't find the firmware for LT05 HH, I found for LT05 but without HH.

I am wondering if LT05 and LT05 HH both would have the same firmware ?

Hello adeelarifbhatti,

The difference in the 2 files is that this file LTO5_E6Q3.fc.ro is for fibre channel drives whereas the other file is for SAS drives.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi,

I updated the firmware for both library and drive succesfully. What I did is, I poweroff the backup server (the server to which tape drive is attached) and first I updated the library firmware and after that I updated the firmware for the drive. I used LTO5_E6Q3.ro file as LTO5_E6Q3.fc.ro is for fiber channel.

Hello adeelarifbhatti,

The latest firmware for the library is C.30. your current version is really old & should be updated. Also for the tape drives themselves the firmware is the same for both LTO5 full height & LTO5 HH drives. Here is a link to the latest firmware so that you can update them both. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=7C3NR&fileId=3396954581&osCode=WS8R2&productCode=powervault-tl2000&languageCode=EN&categoryId=TA

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi,

thanks for the answer. There are two/three more things which are bothering me. The tape drive in the TL2000 is ULT3580-HH5 (IBM), does the firmware has the update for this drive or is it the firmware for library only ? Because when I click on the upgrade firmware I get the interface for uploading two files 1) for the Library Firmware File and 2) for the Drive Firmware File !

Secondly, while clicking on firmware update it says that I should take the device offline ? how could I do it ? Is it like going to *device manager* on windows server (the drive is attached to) and disabling the tape drive or how ?

Thanks in advance !

Hi, I have seen the firmware file for  for the tape drive (LTO5 - E6Q3), but the folder has two files one with LTO5_E6Q3.fc.ro and the other is with LTO5_E6Q3.ro , which one should I use it on the drive ?
