PowerEdge 2950-additional PERC card to connect to PowerVault 220S

Hi,

I have one unit PowerEdge 2950 (Service Tag# < ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>) and one unit PowerVault 220S (Service Tag# < ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>).
I would like to know is it possible to connect 2950 to this PowerVault 220S? I going to refurbish this 2950 to Windows Server 2012.

This PE2950 originally didn't come with extra PERC card. If I want to add in the extra PERC card to connect to PV220s, is it possible to do that?

Hello, jindrax.

So, I'm not saying it's impossible, however it will definitely get tricky. The PV220s works with a PERC 3 or PERC 4, which is NOT validated on the PE2950. The PE2950 is about the time we started switching over to SAS, if I recall correctly. So it'll be difficult at best to find a card for connecting the PV220s.

Aside from that, using the PV220s with Windows 2012 isn't a good idea either. While windows may have a random driver for it, it won't match the firmware, and will cause it to act 'funky' to say the least.

In this case, honestly you'd be better suited to find a large (4TB) USB drive, and be in a much better position than trying to mesh the older technology to today's.

Hi Daniel,

So your advice is not to mess up PE2950 with PV220s. Instead, get additional hard disks and slot into PE2950. Right?

Well said. Yes, that is correct.
