MD3000 failed controller

One of the two controllers in our MD3000 started flashing the error LED, and the "show storageArray profile" command reports "Status: failed" for that controller. Data is no longer accessible via that controller.

There is currently one virtual disk owned by that controller (no multipath setup). I tried to move that virtual disk to the second (good) controller with the command:

set virtualDisk [home] owner=1;

This failed with the message:

Error 18 - The operation cannot complete because of an internal target error.

Is there any way to access the failed controller's virtual disk before the controller has been fixed/replaced?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Do you have storage manager installed? https://www.dell.com/support/article/ly/en/lybsdt1/sln163937/powervault-md3000-md3000i-troubleshooting-steps-for-when-a-virtual-disk-is-not-on-the-preferred-path?lang=en

Determine how the MD3000 is connected.

  1. The host has a connection to only one of the array controllers
and the virtual disk is not assigned to that controller.
    1. Stop all the Input/Output (I/O) to the RAID controller.
    2. Redistribute the Virtual Disks in Storage Manager.
    3. Change the Virtual Disk Preferred path in Storage Manager.
    4. Rerun the Recovery GURU.
    5. If the Virtual Disk is still not on the Preferred Path, please contact Dell Technical Support.

Josh,

thank you very much for your help! That resolved the problem, I can now access the virtual disk again.

Thanks,

Carsten
