IOM

Greetings,

I have a problem with one of the IOM of the EMC Powervault ME412 expansion.
The module fault led starts to blink (2-3s interval) once the powervault is on.
Can I do something to solve this problem ?

I add more info:

  • With the faulty IOM the warnings in the following image appear. It does not happen if the IOM is replaced with other in good conditions.

  • The module fault led blinks in amber (2-3s intervals).

Hello,

You may have already discovered that it needs to be replaced since a known good works.

We can get a look at the logs and see what that shows.

I will send you a Direct Message on your forum profile with the case number you can upload the log to.

Hello,

From looking at the log

  • The Management port for controller B is unplugged. This needs to be plugged in so you can reach both controllers to manage.

  • The IOModule A for enclosure 1 shows as if it is not installed at the time of the logs. If the module was installed when the logs were taken then it would seem that the module is faulty. This is reinforced by the fact that it worked when temporarily tested with a known good module.

  • Old firmware has risks when using FDE capable drives. Need to update firmware ASAP once the IOModule is sorted out.  https://dell.to/3Zcsavc

  • There is a lot of messages back and forth about enclosures being added and removed. If you leave the ME5012 head unit online while disconnecting or turning off the expansion enclosures then that will cause the head unit to see all of the expansion enclosures drives as 'removed'.      Since the raid is incomplete with that many drives missing it causes the raid sets to appear as failed.

So this:

A769       2024-11-25 11:25:31  171  INFORMATIONAL  The last rescan detected a removed enclosure. (enclosure: 1, WWN: 500C0FF06885193C)

Will cause this:

00c0fffb1c3900004057236700000000  829  Yes      2024-11-25 15:26:10  2024-11-25 15:41:23  The disk group is quarantined.

I would recommend taking down the ME5012 rbod before disconnecting the jbod in the future to prevent this.

Since no hosts or volumes are configured it appears this is an initial setup. Once all the IO modules get sorted and you power cycle in the correct order I expect the disk group may come back online. If it doesn't then worst case scenario since there is no data we could easily delete and recreate them if needed once the other problems are fixed up.

I'd recommend contacting Support to get the IOM replaced under the warranty.

Hello,

Thanks for your response.
I will replace the IOM for another one.
The problem is that I am not able to dequarantine the disks (by cli) and erase the disks but it says that it can not be done because the disks are an internal component.
It is show in the following image (it is in spanish)
Thanks in advance.
