Inquiry about the next-generation PowerVault update schedule
Dear Dell Team,
We are writing to inquire about the future roadmap for the PowerVault product line.
We are currently using a PowerVault ME4084 storage system (configured with 14 SSDs and 70 HDDs). Due to data growth and the upcoming expiration of our warranty, we are planning to procure a new storage solution.
Our initial plan was to purchase a new ME5084, or a combination of an ME5024 (for SSDs) and an ME484 (for HDDs). However, we have noted that the PowerVault ME5 series has been on the market for about three years, which is similar to the refresh cycle between the ME4 and ME5 generations.
This raises a concern for us. We are worried that a next-generation PowerVault system might be launched shortly after we deploy a new ME5. Such a release could offer significant performance improvements or support for newer technologies, and as the decision-maker, I would consider it a misstep to have invested in the older model right before a refresh.
Could you please let us know if there are any plans to release the next generation of PowerVault storage in the near future? If so, could you provide an approximate timeline for its availability?
We would greatly appreciate any information you can share.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
Best regards,
-bull

Hi,
The next inline in the roadmap is PowerStore and PowerScale. https://www.dell.com/en-my/shop/storage-servers-and-networking-for-business/sf/power-store and https://www.dell.com/en-my/shop/storage-servers-and-networking-for-business/sf/powerscale
For PowerVault, not at the moment. ME5 would be the latest.

Hi,
I found this recent ME5 support document that it can support up to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.3 (x64 only) and VMware vSphere 8.0. The document is updated on April 2025.

@DELL-Joey C
Dell's official documentation for ME5 storage shows support for:
However, we're planning to upgrade to VMware 8.0 and RHEL 9. Additionally, we anticipate potentially upgrading to even newer versions of these operating systems within the new storage's lifecycle. Unfortunately, the ME5 doesn't officially support these newer systems, at least according to current Dell data.
Given this, we'll likely need to wait for the next generation of storage to be released.
