Dell Power Store T dedicated ports
HI
I have this new storage and soon we would put it in production but I would have a question here
I will go with iSCSi connections but I would likie to know on this diagram are these ports dedicated for example on Powerstore T we have one IO module on each node so basically I would connect port 2 on one switch in one node and then again port 2 on another switch on second nodes
Are these ports dedicated for type of network we are going to use in this case is iSCSI connection. Wer will use this storage only as block storage no NAS capability.
What I can get from this document is that port 2 is dedicated for iSCSI and replication and no other port can be used for iSCSI trafic
Or this is just an example any port can be used for any type of traffic.
My conslusion is that only port 2 should be used for replication traffic.
Can we for example bond this port for example with port 3 if we are not using NAS traffic.

4 should be good, it depends on the amount of traffic to each one.

Hi,
Thanks for your question.
You should be able to bond if not using NAS traffic. https://dell.to/41yGajT

I have this diagram from this document
https://infohub.delltechnologies.com/l/design-guide-vmware-vsphere-with-powerstore-storage-1/storage-design-44/
If we are going with fiber channel network then this makes complete sense
Should we use the same analogy with iSCSI network instead of FIber channel zones it should be vLAN in ethernet networks
Have 2 ports on each node connected to ethernet switches on IO modules.
For example same thing for iSCSI just instead of FC zones it is VLAN

Or simply do this
https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/powerstore-1200t/pwrstrt-ntwkg/cable-the-iscsi-and-replication-and-import-networks?guid=guid-f91f8bf2-1817-4f0d-b988-3d850211db1f&lang=en-us

HI
Thanks for clarifying this
SO i would like to do something like this
Not sure if port from one Node can be bonded with the same port on another node I hope it can
Just last question my colleague also mapped network that we have in this case named iSCSI to 4 port card on ports 1 and 2 that is used for cluster
Is this for management purposes I would assume traffic is not going through cluster network but it is just for management purposes

Page 8 https://dell.to/3H3v6l6 explains the cluster network.

That makes sense as I figured that Cluster network just manages network but doesnt have anything to do with IO traffic
Last question would be with Multipathing. Dell documentation says that for ESXi host it should have at least 2 paths to LUN and maximum of 8 and not more than 8
What would be optimal number of IO paths I would for example configure 4 paths to each LUN. Not sure if there is preferred number my guess would be 4 paths would be optimal

Hi Josh
Thanks a lot for your guidance.
