Power Path 6.1 install on Windows Server 2008R2

While working to update PowerPath on 2008R2 servers PowerPath  installation fails saying it needs the listed hot fixes. KB2921916,KB3033929. Has anyone encountered this before?

Possible solutions or work around's other then the obvious... installation of the hot fixes.

Hello, this is documented in the PowerPath 6.1 release notes on page 17. It is required to support SHA-2 drivers as mentioned. If you want to avoid installing these MS hotfixes, you can run the CLI install with the NO_KBCHECK=1 option.

This is also mentioned in kb https://support.emc.com/kb/495303

Regards, Michel.

So what are the implications of installing PP 6.1 without the hotfixes?  Does it fall back to using SHA1, or does it fail to work?  Background: KB2921916 is a hotfix you receive by request and only to install if affected by the issue in the article.  Trying to install it for us generates "This update is not applicable to your computer" The setupapi.dll referenced in the hotfix is newer on our machine than that referenced in the article. (Perhaps it was superseded by/included in a newer quality rollup?)

This puts us in a position of only being able to install PowerPath 6.1 with the NO_KBCHECK=1 option-- which may open up unknown cans of worms (especially if that causes breakage of some kind if SHA-2 support is required but present).

it sort of seems that perhaps PowerPath 6.1 installer should be checking something else (and/or I should before doing PP 6.1 install with the skip check option)-- like date of the above mentioned DLL and/or presence of SHA-2 support perhaps?

Hello Blueblade, I think it may be best to log a service request and we can engage PowerPath engineering to update on whether the installer needs updating. Please ensure you quote the EMC and MS KBs.

Regards, Michel.

Hi Michel, Blueblade - I checked with engineering and they are aware of this issue and looking into it. Will let you know if there is a resolution or they need more information.

These hotfixes are required for PowerPath 6.1 and later. I will request the documentation be changed.

Thank you

Sam
