PowerEdge 1850 - Win Server 2012 R2 Install Issues

Trying to install Win Server 2012 R2 on my PowerEdge 1850.  I have the install on a bootable USB (created using Rufus).  The system boots and begins loading prep files for Windows installation and then I see the following:

I've tried recreating the USB on different drives and still receive this error.  I also tried turning the OS Install option in BIOS to Off.  When I do that, it goes to the Windows Logo but immediately fails and restarts.  Any ideas?

8G servers are not compatible with 2012 R2 ... not just not supported - not compatible. You can run 2012, but not R2. 2008 R2 is the ideal OS for this generation of server.

Ok. Tried 2008R2 instead and got blue screen of death after it loaded the initial files. Ideas on that?

Nevermind.  Turned off OS Install and it worked fine.  Had to install WIn2003 PERC RAID drivers though.

There is a 2008 R2 driver:

I'd recommend you update it now.

Thank you.  Just to verify, 2008R2 32-bit or 64-bit?  Make any difference?

There is no 32-bit version of 2008 R2 ... it is 64-bit only.

I should add, I'm asking because the amber light is flashing despite all the drives all lighting green.  I want to troubleshoot but don't know where to start.  I'm not hearing any beep codes or returning any messages upon boot that suggest error.

Is there something for 2008R2 I can use to monitor the server's health (temp, fans, etc.)?  When I attempt to look on Dell's support, I see multiple applications but am not sure which I'll need.  Thanks - and sorry for the basic questions.  Obviously my first run with my own server. :)

@theflash1932 I'm a little late to the party, but is there any more detail on this compatibility issue?  I'm curious if it's something that *can* be made to work (just isn't typically worth it).  I have a decent abundance of time, and plenty of curiosity.

In a perfect world I'd be able to get 2012R2 or 2016 on it, but I can just use it as a *nix box if I can't, it was free so I'm not going to complain.  Just was figuring that if it was something relatively simple like just slipstreaming all the drivers into the bootable OS installer that I would do that.  That, or if it's hardware related, would the last series of motherboard with the Paxville Xeons do the trick?

Any additional reading material on the subject would be appreciated, as I think I have a 2850 around too and that may run into similar issues.

Thanks!
