How to Format R710 disks

Hi All, I'm new with the Dell R710 Poweredge servers, I've been asked to just format hard disks located of a R710 with 6 hard disks.

This is why those server have been sold to a another company, so, there is no any special requirement, just delete partition or format the hard disk.

Which is the fatest way? for desktop I use the Windows 7 installation disck or any Linux live cd,

for R710, can i use the Windows 2008 installation disc or anoiher tools cd? sincerely not know if the disk are configured in an array mode.

In this case, there is no problem if I need to break the raid configuration.

thanks in advance!

Hello

sincerely not know if the disk are configured in an array mode.

If you are using one of our RAID controllers and the drives are not in a RAID array then the operating system will not see them.

there is no any special requirement, just delete partition or format the hard disk.

Which is the fatest way? for desktop I use the Windows 7 installation disck or any Linux live cd,

If you are wanting to format the disk then that will be OS specific. If all you are wanting to do is delete data then you can go into the RAID controller and run a full initialization on the array. If your company has data handling policies regarding how to handle data destruction then you should follow those procedures.

If all you are wanting to do is format the drives then boot to almost any OS media and start an installation. One of the first procedures is to format the drive. After that is complete you can exit the installation.

Thanks

I have a R710 that did not come with a RAID card, and no way to clear my HD's I want to use.... I get to the Windows install section to select my partition to install to BUT it doesn't see my full drives, only like 1.5GB when I have 3TB of space...

Any suggestions?

Hello sbnadeau,

Check in the BIOS for your Boot setting.

If you are in BIOS boot mode then the OS boot array can only be 2TB.

You can change your boot mode to UEFI to make use of the full 3TB boot array if your OS supports it.

Check:

Boot to    System Setup > Boot Settings. Check settings.

I'd recommend to make sure you are using a supported OS.

Your PowerEdge R710 supports these operating systems:
