Feedback needed on Dell PERC H710P poweredge R720
Hello all,
I am running into an issue where the system does not see the RAID controller. On the controller itself, the LED is blinking green. I think that it appears to be ok. Now one thing I did noticed is that my locking mechanism did get some damage and the locking tabs are missing. It could be that this prevents this from seating fully in the slot. However, when I checked it, I did feel that it was secure.
For now, I am planning to just get a new one as this might have suffered some unknown damage. However, I would appreciate it if someone could confirm that a green blinking LED is normal operation.
But if in the event I still have this issue, I am looking at getting the PCIE version of the card:
1) Is the PCIE version even compatible with the R720? As in, I can do all the stuff as the mini version (I have 2 processors)
2) Now for cabling. Since this has 2 separate connectors instead of the single 1 for the mini version, I need to get some new cabling. I noticed that all I could source were right angle mini SAS cables (right angle as in, the are right angle to the left/right.) I did not find any that are right angled down (which is what is currently installed). Now maybe I was not looking hard enough but could someone confirm the correct cable part number I need for the PCIe variant of the card?

Hello,
We don't usually do storage configuration changes. That is selected at time of purchase and there are not kits for such changes.
Maybe this can help you:
H710P is supported in slot2 of a dual processor R720. Does not include R720xd.

As for the cable
What backplane do you have and drive size 2.5,3.5 and quantity?
Backplane cabling page 95-108
Looks like the cable would be one of these depending on 2.5" or 3.5" drives

ASSY PERC Card to Right Backplane Cable, PVC, (Poweredge R720, 2.5" Chassis)

ASSY Rear Cable for Backplane to Right Backplane, (Poweredge R720XD, 3.5" Chassis)
H710P controller, either of these

Thanks Charles! That part number for the cable wire harness is precisely what I was looking for. I have the backplane that needs the 2.5 in SAS drives.
As for the RAID controller, I currently have a D0JMF installed. But again, my BIOS nor the LifeCycle controller were able to detect it. I suspect a hardware failure somewhere. I see that on the controller, there is a blinking green LED. Is this normal operation? I would expect it to be solid green.

Hello, so in the user guide for H710P I do not see info about LED, so I would ask that you try using different slots/risers if it is not detected in BIOS.

Hello all,
I got a "new" one off of ebay and when I replaced my existing one, everything worked as it was suppose to!
