Dell PowerEdge R710 Drive error
Hey guys,
I've been using my PowerEdge for a few Months now and it worked perfectly!
I'm running three hard drives (software Raid) with an SSD Cache (also software).
The SSD cache always worked! Today, I had to change some iDrac settings. So I performed a clean shutdown and pulled the power plugs (it doesn't contain a raid battery).
After starting it again, everything seemed normal. iDrac showed the harddrive as "operating normally". But after two minutes, it switches to "Fault detected on Drive 3". Now the drive doesn't work anymore at all..
Do you guys have any idea?
Cheers and thank you!

You want to import the foreign configuration. I don't recall specifically which heading the option is under, but importing is what you'd want to do. That will bring the drive back online as an active member, if it is able to.Generally speaking, there is a prompt to import the foreign config during POST, if you watch for it.

VD MGMT should show a missing VD or a VD with missing disks. Highlight the controller, F2, Foreign, Import.

The drive may have faulted, iDRAC settings shouldn't have anything to do with this. However, the best thing you could do is check logs. Are you able to get into your OS? If so, I would see what logs you have access to and see what, if anything, is said about the drive.

Thank you for your suggestion!
So I did some further investigation and it turns out that the drive is showing up in the perc 6i raid controller!
It just doesn't show up as part of a vd. Under the PD list it is showing up! Unfortunately, when selecting it and hitting f2, the whole drop-down menu is greyed out.. I can't make any changes to it.. The state is showning "foreign configuration".. Do you have any further suggestions? I don't want to loose the data on the drive..
