dell poweredge r620 drive mismatch detected for new drive
I bought a new hard drive to install in front storage bays. When I insert the display says "drive mismatch detected." I checked and there is no RAID controller installed. I disabled RAID and I still see that error. Ran Lifecycle troubleshooting and a drive error was the only thing detected. Is the issue that I need to install a RAID controller or HBA card? If so what exactly should I buy.

Hello,
What I said is that an additional SATA hard drive should work.
To do any changing of controller, cabling, backplane is typically not a field changeable parts because we don’t have any kits for that.
From the manual I was asking what configuration you currently have.
See which one has the cables and quantity of hard drive slots you have.
This is some possibilities components you would need to add a PERC controller: a cable and a PERC H310 or PERC H710.

Hello,
You mention you are not using a PERC RAID card then you are probably using the Embedded S110 controller. Would that be accurate?
The S110 can only use SATA drives and not SAS. Is your disk a SAS?

Can you post picture of the drive labels showing the Dell Part number (DP/N) so I can check if they are Dell validated for the R620?

I see the specs for this drive as:

It is a SAS drive and not a SATA drive and it is specified as a Datacenter Scalable Solution (DSS).
Do you have another SATA drive to install to test the error goes away?
If you need a SATA drive, these are validated for the R620:

I dont have another drive currently. Since S110 can only use SATA drives, I need to buy another raid controller right?

Hello,
Easiest thing may be to purchase a SATA drive.
We don't support APOS storage changes (After Point of Sales).
Selecting configuration is done at Point of Sale and field changing of configuration is non-break/fix and we have no kits for this.
Maybe I can find something. What is the configuration you currently have?

What should I look for to know what configuration? I changed the storage configuration in the BIOS to "none" because this isn't going into production right now. Are you saying if I buy a SATA card it should work with the S110 ?

Circling back.... this worked! I bought a SATA drive (WF12F) and installed it and I can see it and install vmware on it. Thank you !
