Dell 730p raid controller mixed ssd and hdd sas in the same array?
Hey there, i am wondering if there is any way to mix ssd and hdd in the same array.
We had a 4tb SAS drive fail. They are extremely expensive, like 400-600 to buy these days as i guess people dont make them anymore. I had the great idea to try a WD 4tb drive which I got for about $200.
Went to install the drive as a hotspare but it wont let me bind it to the correct HDD array. I can bind it to the SSD array fine.
Question, is this possible? or are they artificially limited to SSD only or HDD only in arrays on this controller. Is there any way to mark the virtual drive as able to take an SSD instead as a replacement?

Hello,
No you cannot mix SSD and SAS hard drives in the same array.
You can have both installed but you can only make virtual disk with like disks.
If you want to go with SSD you would need to backup, replace drives and create virtual disk with the SSD drive. Install OS and restore data from backup.
