Installation of RAID controller on the PowerEdge R6525

Dear Dell Team,

Could you please assist me in determining how to replace our current controller Dell HBA355i with the H745 RAID controller in our PowerEdge R6525? <Private data removed from public view. DELL-Admin>

What is the part number for the H745 RAID controller so we can order it online? Do we need to replace the cables as well, considering we are switching from the HBA355i to a RAID controller?

Are there any additional components we need to order to ensure a proper installation? Please advise if it is a CRU component.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best regards,
Shakhizat

Shakhizat,

To start you will need to do a complete backup, as drives configured under the HBA355i may not retain their configuration under the H745. After that I believe the cabling is the same, but can change based on configuration options. You can follow the link here, on page 52-28, to compare the cabling configurations, depending on your specific hardware.

As far as the H745, if you wish to maintain HBA then you can access the Perc BIOS, go to Physical Disks and verify they are visible, then back out Controller Mgmt and then click Advanced Controller Mgmt at the bottom and select HBA on the following page. The part number for the H745 would be JT47Y.

Let me know if this helps.

One more question, are our current SSDs compatible with the H745 RAID controller? Please see the specifications below from iDRAC.

Hello Chris,

Thanks for your reply. It was informative.

If you can, please help us.

We have five DELL R6525 servers with the following disk configurations:

  1. Dell1 with two 1.92TB SATA SSD
  2. Dell2 with two 1.92TB SATA SSD
  3. Dell3 with two 3.84TB SATA SSD
  4. Dell4 with two 3.84TB SATA SSD
  5. Dell5 with two 3.84TB SATA SSD

How can I create a robust MinIO S3-based storage solution with this hardware? Do we need to purchase additional disks? Should I use HDDs or SSDs for this purpose? What would be the maximum available storage capacity with my current setup? Is it mandatory to have 4 drives per MinIO Server?
