How to safely remove failed hard drives from PowerEdge R7525
I have a PowerEdge R7525 server with two failed hard drives that were part of a RAID 5 setup. It's currently showing Dell's Device Health Manager. I would like to shut down the server so I can remove the failed hard drives, but I can't seem to leave the Device Health Manager. When I hit the exit button, I am taken to a screen that says "one or more boot drivers require configuration changes. Press any key to load the driver health manager for configuration." which takes me back to the Device Health Manager. How should I proceed in order to remove the failed drives?

Hi,
Alrighty. If you are still on the error message, the only way to shut off the server is throught the power button. There is another way through iDRAC, but if you have not set it up then it would be the power button.

Hi,
In a RAID 5 configuration, you can afford to lose one drive without losing data. RAID 5 uses striping with parity, which means data and parity information are distributed across all the drives. If one drive fails, the parity information can be used to reconstruct the data from the failed drive.
However, if more than one drive fails, you will lose data.
You can proceed to replace the drives with similar specification as the failed drive (preferable Dell certified drives). There isn't any safely remove drive as the data has been lost. If data is important, I may suggest contacting your nearest data recovery center provider to recover data. We do not provide any service though. In any case if you do go for data recovery, remember to label the drives according to its slot number.

@DELL-Joey C Thanks, I understand I'm guaranteed to lose some data. I'm wondering though is it safe to just hold the power button to turn off the server, or is there some other way I should exit the device health manager and get to another way to shut it off?
