Change front bezel?
Im upgrading an R930 from the four hdd sff to 24 hdd sff. The front bezel is not compatible and has to be changed. Problem is how does it come off? Are the rack ears holding the bezel on somehow?
I tried to take the ears off but theyre on there with either security screws or some screw head type Ive never seen before.
The kit is on the way from China, I hope, but I'd like to get a jump start on it now that I have time. Any help is greatly appreciated.

So I got the front grill/bezel off. There are 3 more phil-head screws coming down from the top, (Im unfamiliar with the rules here. If it's ok I can post some pictures or videos. This is a community, but how much of a community... I certainly dont want to wear out my welcome.) The rest of the problem was "walking" out the bezel with a smell metal pry tool. As in flat pry tool, as flat as possible. Then with a loud "Ping!" it came off. Didnt have to remove the service tag.
As previously said if allowed I'll post pictures.

Hi,
If I can recall, PowerEdge 13G's bezel ears screws are from the inside of the chassis, I don't recall you would be able to remove the ears without removing the front bezel.
Are you referring to this removal: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-r930/r930om/removing-the-optional-front-bezel?guid=guid-744a634a-97d5-4d2d-a57a-b7aca7af81f3&lang=en-us. Could you check if it's locked? You only need to slide the latch release.

Actually I’m referring to what I would call, “The grill” since there is an optional bezel, but after surfing for hours, I haven’t found anybody else calling it that. Without the optional safety bezel there’s a… bezel, grill, not sure what to call it that looks like a cars radiator grill. It has openings for the hot swap drives to be loaded through. The upper left hand corner has a display panel, and the bottom left hand corner has the opening for the cd-rom drive.
With the 4-2.5”hdd setup, The other hdd “cages” cannot be accessed due to the, “Full face” grill. I bought the upgrade kit for the 24-2.5”hdd setup and hopefully it escaped China like the Millenium Falcon blowing up the Death Star in episode 6.
In the meantime there is very little info onto how the grill is attached. Looking at it there is also very little, “How I’d do it” hints either.
So far I’ve got my precision 7720 laptop and my precision T7910 up and running. This r930 is even more of an adventure. All help is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately that is not an upgradeable part and is considered part of the chassis.

In case anyone is interested the screws take a T10H bit. A torx "safety" bit. And yes the ears hold the bezel on.
Hope someone finds that helpful.

Hi,
Thanks for the update and the initiative to show us your findings. We don't mind community sharing. Least we have posts that can help someone who needs it some day. But we do have some issues about posting picture, sometimes it gets filtered by the server. Why don't give it a try.
