BOSS-N1

am planning to upgrade my PowerEdge T160 with a BOSS-N1 controller using 2X480GB M.2 NVMe drives. When search online for a good deal, most of the products find are listed as compatible with R series servers. I'm not sure if the R series and T series use the same BOSS-N1 modules, or if there is a different BOSS-N1 kit specifically for the T160. Can someone clarify this?"

Hi,

PowerEdge T160 do support BOSS-N1. It's BOSS-N1 Monolithic controller Ref: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-rs/boss-s-1/boss-n1_ug/hardware-components-of-boss-n1-monolithic-controller?guid=guid-dd23fa46-ac34-4cbd-b4ab-124728fbfe2b&lang=en-us

In reference to the user guide, it is an internal component that is not installed onto the PCIe, but it is cabled to the mainboard. Ref: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-t160/t160_ism_pub/removing-the-boss-n1-module?guid=guid-46c1976d-8ee3-4815-a9e8-eea38351eb11&lang=en-us

The controller DPN# WW56V.

The carrier DPN# KH121.

SAS cable DPN# RFKGC

Power cable DPN# X4JC6

Here are the supported M.2 drives: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-rs/boss-s-1/boss-n1_ug/supported-m.2-drives-of-boss-n1-monolithic-boss-n1-modular-et-and-boss-n1-modular-controllers?guid=guid-da5447d5-617c-4a2d-8f9f-14b2717a6df1&lang=en-us
