Alert from iDRAC on R640

Hello. After I enabled email notification in iDRAC, I began to receive the the following alert every morning.

localhost: The Write Endurance of Solid state drive (SSD) Disk 1 on AHCI Controller in slot 1 is less than the threshold value of 'Remaining Write Rated Endurance'.

If I should just buy a new SSD (errors are from both Disk 0 and Disk 1), what type of SSD should I buy?

I installed ESXi on it.  I believe it is RAID 1. Can I just replaced one and another one after the mirroring is finished?

Thank you very much.

TomT36,

Yes, you can replace one disk at a time, and then the mirroring will take care of the data redundancy.

As far as what SSD, I would consider the following factors:

  1. Write Endurance: Look for SSDs with a high write endurance capacity, a higher TBW value indicates the SSD can handle more write cycles.
  2. Capacity: Ensure the new SSDs have enough capacity to match or exceed your current storage needs.
  3. Compatibility: Verify the new SSDs are compatible with your server's hardware and ESXi version.
  4. Quality and Reliability: Self explanitory.

Now since you didnt provide specifics on the drives that are using, I can't suggest any part numbers.

Let me know if this helps.
