Optiplex 7000 Tower - Removing the Slim Optical Drive cover from the bezel
Hi,
I'm trying, without much success, to detach the Slim Optical Drive plastic cover from the front bezel of an Optiplex 7000 Tower system.
The HDD cover above it - that's a snap. Even the silver Optiplex 7000 name bezel below it is simple.
The slim optical drive cover? Not quite. The problem is, the tabs on either side of the cover are way thicker than the bezel itself. I'm afraid that if I pry it off, the bezel will break before the tabs release. Also, does it come out to the outside or to the inside?
Please advise before I break it.
Thanks.

Sorry, that's the tab to the "Optiplex 7000" silver nameplate. That's BELOW the slim optical drive bay.
I figured it out. It becomes painfully obvious once the cover has been removed. Chicken and egg problem here.
I was on to something when I described what's holding it in as a Knob. More accurately, it's a knob with a slit in it on the side of the cover.
That knob sits in a slot on the bezel itself.
The trick is to insert a screwdriver (or two, one on each side of the knob) and squeeze the two tabs of the knob together, as shown below, after the door has been removed.
Once you do that, the door comes out to the INSIDE of the bezel (the REVERSE of the HDD cover which comes out to the Outside).
That is all.

it is detached from inside front bezel. the bezel needs to be removed from chassis first.
this may help it is similar to 7000 https://www.ebay.com/itm/385714841546
do not bend too hard. If it does not bend at all you might be bending a wrong tab.

Thanks, but that's not the same bezel as what I'm seeing on the Optiplex 7000.
That tab you see on left side of the lower bezel? Not on mine.
Oh, and "the bezel needs to be removed from chassis first"? Thanks. Not a complete imbecile here.

the DVD cover on a slim dvd itself is different from the blank DVD cover. what you see on the ebay pic is the blank cover you are trying to remove. no brute force. test which tab is pliable.

The "tabs" are not pliable. That's the problem. They don't even look like tabs. They're more like knobs. And the only way you can get at them is with a thin blade screwdriver.
It's very difficult to get a close up shot, this is about the best I can do.
Cutting the damn cover in half with a hacksaw would take less time. Blowtorch or sledgehammer would damage the whole thing. :)

You see, the cover BELOW the ODD cover is the "Optiplex 7000" silver nameplate.
Now THAT is a tab.
What's holding the ODD cover in is NOT a tab.
I dunno what you call that.
Doesn't look like it was meant to be removed.

ok there are 2 small tabs in there.
tab - knob - tab
it would take 2 flathead screwdrivers to release them.
working on it.......

no worries. it is not a world class puzzle but it may seem insurmountable for now. sometimes walk away get some fresh air may help.
do you see this one. is that a barbed end clip that can be bent?

consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds, apparently. you have to think outside the, er, bezel.
