M.2 SSD drive not showing in Windows or BIOS
I am trying to upgrade this computer from an internal HDD to a M.2 SSD, I cloned the HDD onto an external hard drive and successfully booted from the external drive but now need to clone the external hard drive onto my M.2 SSD. The only problem is when I put the M.2 SSD into the computer it doesn't show up in Windows or BIOS. The M.2 SSD previously worked in my other desktop PC so I'm fairly sure it works perfectly fine. I think it might be that the M.2 is not compatible with the motherboard but I don't know how to check that. Also if it is the case that the M.2 is not compatible with the motherboard, are there any work arounds like putting it in a USB enclosure?
System: Dell OptiPlex 3050 micro
OS: Windows 10 64bit
M.2 SSD: Team Group MS30 M.2 2280 1TB SATA 3 TLC Internal

3050 Micro supports m.2 nvme ssd only based on Dell oem ssd part list. Your ssd is m.2 sata. It is not supported by motherboard m.2 ssd slot.

Do you know if there is any work around to still use the SATA M.2 SSD but just not in the M.2 motherboard slot. Like putting it in a USB enclosure?

Did some more digging and found out that the M.2 slot on the OptiPlex 3050 micro only supports PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD's, not SATA M.2 SSD's. https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000129720/optiplex-3050-support-for-pcie-m-2-ssd-hard-drives

I would just get nvme m.2 ssd.
usb external ssd would incur some overhead loss of speed compared to raw access on motherboard, although usb 3.0 or 3.1 gen 1 speed is close to sata ssd. one user reported these test results:
Kingston 128GB SSD: SATA – 793 GB/hr, USB 3.0 – 350GB/hr
G.Skill Falcon 128GB SSD: SATA – 479GB/hr, USB 3.0 – 200GB/hr
