XPS M1530 with new SSD won't recognize 1395 WLAN adapter
I just bought a new 128Gb SSD for my old workhorse XPS M1530, did a clean VISTA Ultimate 32 bit OS install from the original DVD that came with the laptop. Everything works except the 1395 wifi adapter.
I know the wifi adapter hardware is fine, because the wifi still works when I put the old 64Gb SSD back in. I am using the same WLAN driver version on the new install. Device manager says the adapter is installed and working correctly. Yet the computer with the new SSD does not recognize that the WLAN adapter is installed and enabled.
I am using the WLAN driver and BIOS version recommended to me by Dell Support for my service tag number. These are the same versions that I have on the old SSD.
I'm tempted to reformat the new SSD and start all over, but that takes a lot of time to re-install everything. And I'd hate to waste 10Gb on the new SSD to install the recovery partition on the new SSD that is on the old SSD and do a restore onto the new SSD. I don't need anymore some of the software that came pre-installed on the laptop.

I did another clean install of the OS onto the new SSD, and this time I found and used the original Drivers and Utilities disk that came with the laptop to install the DELL System Software Utility first. This did the trick, because when I installed the drivers this time, the 1395 WLAN works.
Now I've got a 22Gb Windows.old directory wasting space, but I'm happy. I'll reformat the drive in the morning while hooked to my laptop in an external USB SATA drive enclosure and start with a fresh, clean drive and redo the OS install again, this time correctly.
It's kinda ironic that the DELL System Software Utility wasn't showing available for my service tag on support.dell.com.
Lesson learned. I'll post tomorrow how the final OS install goes on the clean, new SSD.

The re-installed OS and drivers on the reformatted new SSD went without a hitch this time. Have 94.9Gb free out of 119Gb total. 1395 WLAN working flawlessly.

Gene,
What brand SSD and part number did you end up using?
