XPS 12, targus docking station, wireless problem
hy,
I just bought a XPS 12 and a targus docking station. I have the problem that whenever I plug in the docking station to the XPS the wireless connection becomes unstable and more often then not I cant connect to my wireless internet connection (the computer recognises the connection but then is not able to connect to it). As soon as I unplug the targus docking station, wireless works fine.
I tried several driver updates as suggested in other posts but nothing seems to work.

I solved my problem.
OK, like I said, I have an XPS 9333 13-inch. It has 2 USB 3.0 ports, one on each side of the computer.
When I plug the dock into the LEFT one, my wireless connection stops working.
When I plug the dock in to RIGHT one, my wireless connection works fine!
I wonder if this might be worth a try for others. It evaded me because of what I thought was the sheer illogicality of the notion that which of the two supposedly identical ports you were using would have an impact.

Same here. Phoned Targus, not much use now waiting to hear after sending them system info. From the info they requested seems there may be common probs with USB 3 or display drivers, but can't find anything online about that.
Lot's of threads suggest BIOS settings, unfortunately there isn't a WLAN/LAN setting in the BIOS on the XPS-12. Incidentally, I also tried it with a USB wifi adaptor and had the same problems. Disabling the Targus ethernet in device manager doesn't make any difference either.
Kinda glad to hear it's not just me having these probs. I was close to returning the docking station, other people with the same prob suggests that's probably fine.

Seeing as Dell sell the same docking station re-badged it's odd that there are these problems. They explicitly state compatibility with the XPS 12

I've (hopefully) resolved my probs by using the latest Intel Wireless Drivers (not detected by Dell update): http://downloadmirror.intel.com/23390/eng/Wireless_16.6.0_e64.exe

I have same problem, also updated drivers, no joy. Worryingly basic problem.

I had the same issue....downloaded the Intel driver and worked like a charm......no more wifi connectivity issues once I installed the driver.
02/17/14 - Update....I spoke to soon. Installed the driver and it did NOT work. Still working with Dell for a resolve.

Same problem with a new Acer notebook, when plugged into the left side. Trying plugged into the right.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? and if not is there anyone who is comfortable with the Device Manager that would be will to help me troubleshoot some of the odd behavior I have been observing?
I'm running a brand new Inspiron 15 5000 series and a Targus USB 3.0 Dock with power.

Hi, has there been a solution to this problem?
I can confirm this is not just a Targus problem. I have a Toshiba Dynadock that is showing the same symptoms with a XPS 12 (Haswell). I have updated to the latest Displaylink and Intel drivers with no avail.
Further I have an Inateck USB3.0 and ethernet adapter and the same thing happens when I plug this in. So it appears this is a problem when any adapter with an external ethernet port is plugged in. Even disabling the adapter in adapter settings does not solve the problem.

Hi All, has there been any progress, any solution, any advice like through PM?
I'll dig into this because I bought an XPS 12 convertible with the D3000 dock to my friend internally (as a Dell employee) and I haven't been able to make it work correctly. The first issue is the WiFi interruptions and fails when connected to the dock. Other issues include display blackouts and connected USB devices hiccups.

I ended up returning my laptop bc it wasn't worth it if the docking station didn't work. There where a number of "fixes" that lasted for up to a day but nothing actually fixed the problem. As far as I could tell it is actually a hardware problem. Some component on the MB just couldn't handle the data rate. It seemed like the more that got plugged in i.e. docking station, monitors, speakers, even my IR remote with every device the systems functions slowed a little. As far as I can tell there is no fix sorry.

I returned my docking station and have been getting by with just an external monitor but do need a docking station, has anyone here found one that works well with the XPS-12?
Anyone noticed any problems with other USB 3.0 devices? I've had some connection problems with a USB 3 hard drive adaptor but couldn't say if it was down to the laptop or adaptor. An (Acer) external ethernet adaptor worked fine here.
