wifi not working well or at all after recent update
We bought a Dell All-in-one Inspiron 23" 5348 Windows 8.1. Upgraded to Windows 10 with some help on this forum. All went well. It has been fine until a recent Windows update or maybe it was a driver update. Now wifi is a real problem. Have to restart a few times to get it to work and when it does it is very slow. How do I go back to previous driver? It worked just fine. Or would that be the thing to do?
I plugged in a network cable into my modem and I'm using that for now.

Thanks for all of the updates. Can you try this driver here for your card: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER03748274M/1/Network_Driver_3F0RX_WN32_10.0.0.341_A05.EXE I know it might be an older one for Windows 10 but I would like to see if this changes anything (so you might have to force it to install). Also can you send me a Private Message (do not post it here) with your Service Tag?
On a side note depending on the speed of Fiber that could be available in your area (if you do upgrade) you might want to consider looking at a replacement card that has 5 ghz and is ac capable. With this card it would limit how fast your connection would be since this card is only capable of 2.4 ghz and does not support ac. 5 ghz has shorter range but it would make a big improvement vs 2.4 ghz.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Brad

Hi Pogsinnz,
What Wifi card is in your system? And what speeds were you seeing over WiFi (prior to the update)?
Best regards,
Brad

Hi Brad, Thank you kindly for the reply. I thought maybe I had it fixed by using the Dell system detect and doing all the updates. I also used CCleaner to clean up all files etc and clean the registry.
Anyway it happened again just now. I start up the computer and it doesn't connect even though the modem is right next to the computer and the signal strength is excellent.
It says the network card is Dell Wireless 1707 802.11b/g/n 2.4 GHz. I ran Network card diagnostics and it said everything was fine. I asked it to update the driver but it said it was the most recent.
I did see that something was done Sept 26 and that would be about when problems started. Wifi always worked just fine from start-up but not so any more. I have to restart at least once or more to get it to connect, otherwise I try to force it to connect and after thinking about it it says "CANT CONNECT TO THIS NETWORK"
speed test just now says 15.57 Mbps 0.87 Mbps but I think it goes very slow sometimes
They just laid fiber down our street so maybe can get much faster broadband soon, but I reckon i will still have a wifi problem, correct?

is this of interest? it suggests device install requested and also suggests below that something "requires further installation"
I don't have a clue what that is all about.

Hi Brad, Just got your message - thanks.
I will try the driver - and in fact I am particularly interested if it is a somewhat older version as it did work until recently.
From reading today I guess I should download a copy onto the cpmputer, then uninstall the existing driver then try to make it install the driver you have indicated.
Thank you for the info about the card upgrade with respect to fiber. I will definitely look into it. I gather the UFB may be available before Christmas.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Cheers, Paul

Hi Paul,
I just replied on your PM, thanks for sending the tag. You're correct on the steps to try and you would want to do this in the Device Manager (for the uninstall of the WiFi card).
Definitely let me know how it goes, or if any questions.
Best regards,
Brad

Thank you Brad, the older Wifi driver appears to have sorted the problem. Wifi now connects as it always used to. It has worked for several days now.
And thank you for info regarding upgrading the Wifi card if I eventually get ultra fast broadband.
