Wi-Fi turns itself off when lid closes, turns back on when lid opens
On my Dell Latitude E6510 the Wi-Fi turns itself off when I close the lid, and turns itself back on when I open the lid.
I have the power management in Win7 set to DO NOTHING when I close the lid while running on AC power, but closing the lid still shuts down the Wi-Fi.
I'd rather have the wi-fit stay on with the lid closed so the laptop will stay on my home network, but I cannot find any setting to make the wi-fi stay on.
Am I missing something or is this just something that the Latitude always does -- none of my earlier Dell laptops ever did this.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already tried that.
However, in case anyone else has the same problem later and finds this thread, I did find a solution. The problem turned out to be that I was using Dell's own software to manage the Wi-Fi adapter. The Dell software has a few settings but none related to either powering down the Wi-Fi or closing the lid. When I switched to letting Windows manage the Wi-Fi adapter the problem went away.

Hi,
I believe you also need to go into the properties page of the wireless driver and change the power settings there.
Click on Start button > search for Device Manager > open Network adapters category > find the listing for your wireless card and right click on it > select Properties >
From there it depends on your driver. Some will have the power management settings in the Advanced Tab while others will have it listed under a separate "Power Management" tab. You may need to check both areas to find the correct setting.
You're looking for a setting that states something along the lines of Ällow the computer to turn this device off to save power". Make sure that is unchecked and see if it helps resolve the question / issue you have.
If you have further questions please right click my Dell Todd username and send me a private message with the Dell Service Tag of the Latitude E6510 laptop. Please keep all discussions and troubleshooting here in this public thread so that others with the same questions / concerns can see what is discussed.
Thank you,
Todd

Actually the only driver setting even slightly related is the "Allow Computer to turn off Wi-Fi to save power" but that was not checked -- both checking it and unchecking it had no effect on the problem -- changing from the Dell software to letting Windows manage the Wi-Fi adapter did solve the problem.
