Inspiron 15R 5537 Bluetooth and Wi-Fi won't work together
Hi all,
I have an Inspiron 15R 5537, about two years old. I've upgraded to windows 10 and had it since May (I participated in the insider program). The driver I am running is the Dell Wireless 1705 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth driver, latest version. (The Dell Wireless 1704 Wi-Fi and 1704 Bluetooth drivers will not even install on this laptop.)
I have a Bose Soundlink II Mini Bluetooth speaker that I use to listen to audio from my laptop as well as my phone. But when I connect to the speaker from my Inspiron, Wi-Fi runs extremely slowly and almost stops working. For example, I can't stream a video from Youtube and watch it while my speaker is connected via Bluetooth. It seems that I can either use Wi-Fi as normal and not connect to Bluetooth, or use Bluetooth with my laptop and basically lose Wi-Fi. I've had this problem since I got the speaker in mid June and actively started using my Bluetooth.
I called Bose a couple weeks back and we tried a whole bunch of different things, and we concluded that it was not a problem with the speaker, but most likely my laptop. Calling Dell tech support got me nowhere since the laptop is out of warranty. So I'm hoping someone here could help me because I have no clue what to do now.
Thanks,
Jon

Hi,
You're running the 10.0.0.0, A00 version of the DW1705 Windows 10 driver then?
Try this. Go into Device Manager and totally remove the current drivers, then reboot your system. See if Windows 10 installs drivers for the card, and see if that native driver helps. If it doesn't install, or it doesn't help, you can revert back to the 10.0.0.0 driver.

Hi Jon,
What happens if you're using a different bluetooth item? Is your wireless still affected? What I'm wondering is if the EM field that the speakers are putting out, when active, is doing something to the wireless connection? If the same thing happens when using any bluetooth component, and the speakers themselves are "off", then maybe it's a power setting on the wireless card?
What wattage of AC adapter are you using? Not sure if you see the same symptoms when on battery alone, or ac adapter alone? Could it be the amount of power going into your system, and thus it's "powering down" the wifi card a bit?
Honestly not sure what would be the cause other than interference from the speakers or power consumption / settings on the wireless and bluetooth cards.
Do you have a different AC adapter you can try?

Hi Todd, thanks for your response!
I connected my phone directly to my Inspiron, and there was no interference. I also tried using the speaker with my dad's XPS 13, and it had no problems at all.
My AC adapter is 65 watts (it's the standard AA65NM121 adapter that came with the laptop). I tried running it on battery alone, and it didn't seem to make much of a difference, though I would say it ran slightly better with less Wi-Fi trouble, but still a significant problem. The only other AC adapter I tried was a 150-watt adapter from an HP all-in-one desktop, and there was no difference in results between the different adapters. Based on this, it seems like a power issue with the wireless card, but I'm no expert. What would you suggest I do?
Thanks,
Jon

I assume you have the Dell 1704 card in the system? What happens when you try to install Version 12.0.1.690, A00 of the Bluetooth driver for the 1704? Or version Version 7.35.267.0, A00 of the Wifi driver for the 1704? Those are the Win10 drivers.
You said they don't install. What happens when you try?
Not sure if what you're seeing is a symptom of using an incorrect driver or not, so I'm curious as to what happens when you try to install the correct driver.

I believe I actually have the 1705 card, the part description was this: 'CARD (CIRCUIT), WIRELESS, HMC, DW1705BN, WORLD WIDE, FOXCONN'
When I tried the 1704 drivers, the wireless one would just run and then say something along the lines of 'installation unsuccessful', while the Bluetooth one would run, start the installation process, and eventually I would get a message that says 'activate Bluetooth using wireless switch' and could proceed no further.

I did as you suggested and the native driver helped, everything seems to work better now. I also upgraded the drivers through the device manager (not downloaded from Dell's site) and decided to see what would happen. The Bluetooth driver is at version 10.0.1.1 and the wireless driver is at version 10.0.0.321 now. I'm planning to reinstall my OS in the near future, so I'll keep this in mind. Also I'll be sure to check back here if anything goes wrong again.
Thank you very much :) I really appreciate your help so far.
