IE8 works okay but IE11 does not work, Firefox shows "Server Not Found"
A neighbor gave me her Dell Inspiron One Win 7 Home Premium All-in-One computer because she said it had problems and she did not want to deal with it. All the problems are associated with the internet as programs not requiring the internet seem okay. I am accessing the internet wirelessly. I have run a system diagnostic test and all hardware and memory checks out okay.
It was running IE11 when I received it and would not access the internet at all. When I removed the updated IE11 and reverted back to IE8 it can access the internet but will not allow a download of a different browser (Opera, Chrome). I was able to download Glary Utilities and run a complete scan which showed no issues at all but I cannot update the version that was installed. The same issue applies to Malwarebytes which states that it is unable to access the update server. I was able to Download and install Firefox but when I try to open Firefox I get the response "Server Not Found". I have turned off Windows Firewall.
The default browser in IE8 is Bing and when I ask for more providers, none are listed.
The build date was 10/13/2011 and the Service Tag is GNQV9Q1
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks, J

Hello,
Coming from a Dell employee this is going to sound a bit cliche but really, just wipe off the drive and re-install the factory operating system. There really is no knowing what was installed on the system (intentionally or not) or what settings have been changed over the previous owner's use of the Inspiron One. If the internet works on IE8 but not other browsers then it's a sign that it's not a hardware problem.
If you live in the US then you'll want to transfer ownership of that system to yourself and then you can go to this link to request the reinstall media (if you don't have it).
Let me know if you have any questions or if you need any additional info, and I'll be glad to help if I can.

Hello Todd,
I have tried in vain to reach the neighbor who lives behind me in another cul-de-sac...no response to either my emails or text messages. I don't have a clue as to her reasons. I will try to complete the transfer of ownership form and hope for the best with the limited information I have. If it is inadequate I will destroy the computer and waste no more of my time or yours. Thanks again for your help. Jeff
