I have access to the internet, but Windows says No Internet Access.

I received several Dell Latitude E6440's Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) and have begun preparing them for deployment, but I ran into the same problem on all of them so far.

When I use an Ethernet cable the networking tray icon has the yellow warning icon showing. When I look at the Network and Sharing Center, it says No Internet access, but I can use Internet Explorer and Google Chrome to surf the web and download drivers and programs. Windows also sees my internal network, just not the Internet.

So far I have uninstalled and updated the LAN drivers and let windows try to troubleshoot the issue. Sometimes Windows will randomly temporarily resolved the issue, but it has always come back.

I don't know if there was a problem with the Dell image or what, but help would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Rick,

Thanks for trying to help, but you are not at all helpful. You did not read my posts and offered useless advice.

The problem is Dell has a broken image from factory,

The solution, reinstall Windows from scratch, install the Chipset driver first and then the rest of the drivers from Dell.

And by the way, I'm not a newbie IT analyst, I've been doing this for years.

skyman2damax,

I have noticed that some images don't install the Dell System software(if applicable) and the chipset drivers properly. The combination of these drivers know what is attached to your system.

Some virus programs and firewall will block the connection.

Some wireless adapters work on 2.4GHz ONLY, even if they say wireless N, so you need to watch this closely. I have been using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings and have not had a wireless device that could not connect.

You checked the network and sharing center, clicked on your connection, then click on properties. Look for TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 and click on properties for each. Have your settings match mine.

I also do these tweaks...

Start, control panel, device manager.

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.

--------------------------------------

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

skyman2damax,

When you installed the operating system, did you install the Dell System Software (if applicable) and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Start with the Dell System Software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.

Windows came pre-installed on these laptops with the Dell System Software and drivers installed. I let the Dell Utility update the drivers in the proper order. All of the drivers are installed properly and none of them failed during the installs.

The internet works, but the Network and Sharing Center lists Access type: "No Internet access".

The other part I failed to mention is that I am still in audit mode because I am building an image.

I have done the tweaks, but I am not having problems with the wireless.

My problem is with the Wired LAN...

all of my 6440/6540s have the same problem, i've bypassed dell and gone out to intel for the latest drivers with no luck.

Unfortunately the only solution I have found so far is to re-install Windows 7 from scratch.

Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system? If yes, did you install the drivers in the correct order?
