Dell Wireless 1708 Wifi Issues: Keeps Disconnecting
I recently factory reseted my Dell Inspiron 13 7347 and upgraded it instantly to Windows 10 Build 10240. After tweaking my security settings on my laptop, I found that my wireless connection was very unstable. On my device, I have a Dell Wireless 1708 802.11b/g/n (2.4GHz).
On IMAGE 2, I currently connected to my home connection (my connection and other connections are shown on the available connections list)
On IMAGE 4, I am suddenly disconnected from my network and only my home connection shows on the available connections list.
On IMAGE 3, I try to reconnect to my connection however it changes to IMAGE 5 and labels as not connected and no connections are available and shown-IMAGE 1.
No fix from disabling and enabling my adapter works.
On IMAGE 5, I troubleshoot problems on my connection and it fixes it, but this problem occurs many times when I am either using or not using the internet. It especially disconnects often when I am loading two or more tabs at once or using a heavy usage of internet.
Is there any fix to my problem? From device manager, I uninstalled it and restarted but that didn't fix it.
Also, I downloaded driver [Dell Wireless 1708 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver] but it only updated my bluebooth, not the wifi adapter.
Please help.

HI,
So I got my Dell inspiron 3148 recently. Everything was fine until I upgraded to Win 10. I was presented with the same issues like everyone - Wifi connection unstable. I did try a lot of options/suggestion available out there, none worked for me.
But I did notice a pattern - everyone was pointing to the faulty drivers.
So I decided to remove the Dell Wireless 1708 WiFi driver and installed the Win 10 bundled driver - Broadcom 6.30.223.256 which seems to solve the problem for me. No more drop connection or erratic speeds.

To change to the 6.30.223.256 driver, use the path mentioned above and add a few additional steps, so...
Control Panel>Device Manager>Network Adapters>Dell Wireless 1708>Driver>Update Driver>Browse Computer>Let Me Pick> then choose the BroadCom 802.11n Network Adapter that is listed.

Try the following information to resolve the issue with the wireless.
Turn off computer, unplug the power from the wireless router and the network cable as well. Leave the router off and unplugged for about 3-5 minutes. Plug the cable and the power cable back into the router. Wait for the link lights to all light up. Then you can turn the computer on to see if you can connect.

What kind of a stupid answer is that? It's even more annoying that it comes from Dell Support! Oh by the way, I also have that same issue from my 'new' Dell Inspiron 13!

I have the same issue on Inspiron 11 3148 (constant resetof WLAN card is very annoying).

I am having the same problem. This is not a router issue. I have multiple wifi connections and none of them are visible until the Dell Wireless 1708 802.11b/g/n (2.4GHz) network adapter is reset. This is an issue with the network adapter and needs a fix.

I'm also having the same problem. I can't watch an entire Netflix episode or sync cloud docs without the wifi periodically kicking out for no reason, and having to start over or re-sync.
I run the network trouble shoot, it resets the adapter, and only then I'm back on. Doesn't matter the network I'm using, there's no IP conflicts, no other devices on the network has this issue, it's almost like there's an arbitrary timer on the wifi that glitches it off and won't work until I reset it through troubleshoot.
All my drivers are up to date. occurred with win 8, thought a win 10 os install would download fresh drivers and force fix this issue, but nope. Same problem.
The only thing I haven't had problems with that other users across the internet have complained about is the network speed. My speed is fine... I just have to reset the wifi every 5 to 20 minutes.

could you provide assistance how to do that?
i know how to remove the driver just don't know how to force use the bundled windows 10 driver.

YES! worked for me as well. almost a week without a drop. it also now comes back from sleep mode and connects immediately as well. another issue with the Dell driver.

Hi,
You can refer to the post by slowolf. It contains exact details on how to change the drivers and update to Broadcom.
In case the driver is not available, which should not really be the case, you can download this driver of net and then install. The only difference on this step is that you will need to provide the file path manually.

I ran into the same unstable WiFi problem with my Dell Inspiron 3148 after installing Windows 10. As instructed here I removed the Dell Wireless 1708 WiFi driver and installed the Broadcom 6.30.223.256 driver. It worked for me, almost a month now without a drop.
