Cannot connect 802.11n from 14z Inspiron 5423
Purchased 14z 5423 as new year clearance stock. Running windows 7 sp1 and have updated dw1703 device driver to 9.2.0.512 (latest available for 5423 on windows 7). Can connect to router over 802.11g, but fails to connect with access point (Belkin Surf N300) over 802.11n. There is no problem with access point as can connect from several other devices including XPS L502x. Have followed advice from other posts including setting Power option for Wireless adapter to Maximum Performance. Also set 802.11n Bandwidth option to 20Mhz/40Mhz Auto. Symptom of problem: 1. The SID for access point only appears after restarting computer. 2. Double clicking the access point allows me to enter security key 3. After failing to connect, the SID for access point disappears from list Appreciate any assistance.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am using Norton 360 Premier. I have tried disabling the firewall, but still the SID for the Belkin access point only appears after a restart and fails to connect after entering the security key. No problems with the Billion router over 802.11g.
After some experimenting, I then realised that the dw1703 only operates on channels close to 2.4Ghz. After I changed the AP to connect on channel 7, I can now see the SSID and connect without any problem.

Have worked out that the dw 1703 only likes channel 7&8 as operates on 2.44Ghz. After I reset the channel to channel 8 (was previously on channel 11), I had no problem accessing the access point and connecting. Problem solved.

I have discovered that the dw1703 will only connect to the router when operating on a channel close to 2.4 GHz. After I changed the channel from 11 to 7, I had no problem viewing the SSID and connecting. Problem solved.
