N1500p stack firmware 6.8.0.1 high cpu due ssltHelperTask

Hi,

does anybody determine way to high cpu on N1500 stack after upgrading firmware to 6.8.0.1 due ssltHelperTask?

The stack contains 4 x 1548p units. I rolled back to 6.7.1.10 because the switch had paketloss and high leadtime regularly:

What I noticed too, after reloading the stack, the poe-module of unit 4 did not come up. After reloading unit 4, it worked again. I have no screenshot but "sh power inline" shows unknown status of all ports of unit 4.

Regards,

Thorsten

Hey,

in the meantime I determined, that the high cpu occured after updating to firmware 6.7.x.x in the past. I´ve downgraded the stack to 6.6.x.x et voilá the cpu goes down to normal.

The Dell-Support accepted the downgrade as the solution and seems not to be interested to find the root cause in the newer firmwares.

Konsumaffe,

I have not seen anything regarding that specific update, but I can look into it for you, yet with the issue occurring only under that update it may indeed be the update itself causing. Let me see what I can find, but just know you may be better off calling in to support, as they can analyze the issue directly.

Hey Chris,

thanks 4 your support. I will prepare a new test-stack and try again. Then I call the support. But it takes some time.

What I noticed in the last firmwares from 6.7.1.6 too; there are other processes that cause higer cpu then before. For example:

1391 USL_Worker_Task 8.55% 8.34% 7.98%

1567 StatsAppTask 10.22% 6.98% 6.77%

However, this only happens if your stack has 3 or 4 units.

If you have any feedback, let me know.

Regards,

Thorsten

Hi,

Any updates on this issue ? We are upgrading our parc of n1500 series from 6.6.2.9 to 6.8.1.4 and have the issue on only one switch (stack of two).

Seems like the high usage of this process occurred on all devices after the upgrade but lasted no more than 5-10minutes, it's been more than an hour so far.

show process cpu

Memory Utilization Report

status     KBytes
------ ----------
free       434144
alloc      580692

CPU Utilization:

PID        Name                  5 Secs  60 Secs 300 Secs
---------- ------------------- -------- -------- --------

1505       ssltHelperTask       72.20%   77.87%   77.68%

We will consider a reboot at noon and maybe a version roll back if issue persists.

I could not find anything relevant in the releases notes.

best regards

Hi,

I couldn't see on release notes any known issues or recommendations related to SSL traffic or the ssltHelperTask process. for version 6.8.1.4 to check for  Additionally, You may monitor the SSL traffic on the affected switch to understand the volume and type of SSL traffic being processed.(wireshark) If you don’t change anything after reboot for 6.8.1.4, I would consider rolling back to version 6.6.2.9.
