Dell S3048-ON Partition got invalid
Hi Team,
Today, after the upgrade i executed "fsck corepartition" and the executed "power-cycle stack-unit 1" and upon reboot i found that B: partition went into "INVALID" state and now switch is left with only Partition A:. Upgraded couple of switches but faced this issue only with one switch. Please share the resolution if anyone else also faced this issue. Upgraded version was 9.14.2.9P1, old version was 9.13(0.0P1).

Hi, thanks for choosing Dell. Please take backup of switch configuration from the switch and follow the method below using ONIE mode to install firmware on switch and then restore backup configuration into switch.

(important): This file (from the attached image) need to be downloaded from link and install from ONIE- mode.

Hello,
the procedure described will fix any software issue as it reinstall the OS.
We cannot assure that there will be other issue that now we cannot see, but this is the only way to restore the switch without the partition invalid.
Thanks

hi Young,
thanks for the response.
Can you please share the probable cause of this issue? Is this the frequent reloading, as mentioned in the MoP, of the switch during upgrade that caused this issue?
Also, is this confirmed we will not get caught in another issue like A: partition failure during ONIE process and the switch ll be back with both partitions?
Many thanks
Zaifi

Hi Team,
Thanks for the responses so far.
As suggested by team earlier, i tried using the ONIE mode to resolve the invalid partition issue but the problem now i faced was that console was printing gibberish output due to which i couldn't do anything on the switch.
For reference, i ve attached the sample output from console session. Please suggest further for the issue resolution.
Thanks
Zaifi

Hi Dell Team,
Thanks for the valuable feedback.
Issue is resolved. Gibberish output was due a console cable although it was working fine with Juniper/Cisco and even with Dell Z9100 but with S3048 it was showing weird output. So i used another console cable and it worked fine.
Regarding the partition being invalid, i used the ONIE mode and switch partitions are fine now.
Thanking again.
