Unable to unmount DDBoost volume

Hello, I need to unmount ddboost volume because I need to mark it "scan needed" (My DD is almost full and I need to clean it. I used nsrmm to delete obsolete savesets but now need to scan the volume because recovered space was very very small)

But when I trying to unmount there is an error message " Volume mounted on Data Domain disk is idle". I dont see any activity using this device so dont see the reason why I cant unmount it.

NW server version: 8.2.3.7 Windows

DD model : DD990

Firmware version:5.5.4.0-525810

You should be able to umount it.  If it is stuck and if there are no read/write operations, you can do nsrmm -Hv -f and this will reset the the device and after thay you will be able to use it (umount it for example).

This is correct. As long as the device is still idle, you will not be able to unmount/unload the media.

This should go away in an instance, of course only if all processes on that device have finished.

Another method is to put the device to 'service mode' so that at least no new processes will be assigned.

I personally would prefer to start a manual cleanup process at the DD itself. If this will not help I would delete old save sets from NW.

If not, try to stop the appropriate nsrmmd process for that device at the storage node.

NW will restart the proccess but that should update the status, AFAIR.

And one more question: I have a DD , with 99% of used space. This is a new customer for me so I dont know why it is.

Yesterday I found an old save sets(browsable) and tried to recycle them using nsrmm -o recyclable -y -S. Now Im going to mark ddboost device as scan needed. The target is to delete an obsolete savesets and possible garbage on DD (as far I know old versions of NW didnt clean recycled savesets for DDBoost).

Is it correct Action Plan for cleaning?

Scanning means to retrieve missing metadata (save set and file index information) from the backup media.

Of course you can only scan what is still available.

A scan does not delete any data - It will just ensure that save sets will not be deleted too early.

To delete data, you must delete save sets (nsrmm -d -S ssid/cloneid).

But this will have an immediate affect for NW only (media index and file index).

On a DD you must then run a garbage colletion which by default is 'only' run once a week. But you can start it manually.

Unfortunately you cannot predict how much data will remain because the DD data may still have other dependencies.
