Networker 8.2 library issue

Hi,

We are using Networker 8.2. Recently an issue occurred and the tape library disappeared in Networker Administration. I managed to get it back by running 'scan for devices', then 'Re-configure Library'. Since then though we have another issue . If the library contains two tapes (in slots 1 and 2, for example), with the correct labels showing in the Admin app, then another two are inserted in two slots, the labels shown for 1 and 2, change to a generic name.

I have tried playing around with the config in Admin but to no avail. I can't help feeling there must be some settings that needs re-applying.

I found after running an inventory from the command line on the server, all the tape names in the Admin app changed to the generic ‘server and domain’ label name. I then right clicked \\.\Tape0 under Device, selected ‘Inventory’, entered ‘1-6’ in Slot List and ticked ‘Reinitialize library state before inventory’. This ran another inventory and restored the correct tape names.

You should reset anr re-inventory the jukebox: nsrjb -HIv or nsrjb -HIEv

Hi, I just tried using 'nsrjb -HIEv' (I actually had to enter nsrjb -H -I -E -v before it worked), the library ran an inventory but looking in the Networker Admin app, all the tapes changed to a volume name of the server and domain. So it didn't fix the issue.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

If the backup operator does not have access to the server console, what would be the equivalent steps in the 'Networker Administration' app? I have established the library supports 'element_status so would use 'nsrjb -HIEv'

This really looks as if there is something wrong with ...

The name should represent the pool label. Of course you could use the FQDN in a label template, but this does not make sense.

  -  What is reported when you just run "nsrjb"? - Is there a mismatch between the CLI and the Admin GUI?

  -  What happens if you re-inventory the slots from the Admin GUI with the option "Force load and verify labels"?

In this case NW must read the real volume name from tape.

The backup user has decided to stick with the longer way of running inventory until we move to a different solutuon.
