NAS backup with Networker 8.2 SP1 Snapshot Management

I am trying to do a VNX5300 Unified (with NDMP and Local&Remote protection) Backup using the new feature in NW 8.2.1

I have read the

docu57701_NetWorker-8.2-SP1-Snapshot-Management-for-NAS-Devices-Integration-Guide.pdf

Still I can´t make it work.

I get the following errors:

-When try to backup: nsrnassnap_save:Path not found56556:nsrnassnap_save:Failed to create a snapshot of root_vdm_

- When try to discover snapshots already made in VNX: Task NSR NAS discovery task .... already running.

I have used global sysadmin account for the Management Credentials, I have also tryed with nasadmin.

In the NAS device management name I have put the Control Station IP and his name, no luck either.

I have put the correct NDMP credential becasue it works as NDMP and the same VNX configured as NDMP backups OK.

I use this parameters for Aplication Information:

USE_TBB_IF_AVAILABLE=Y

DSA=y

DIRECT=Y

BUTYPE=dump

HIST=Y

UPDATE=Y

This is my config:

Apps&Modules.png

Global1.png

Global2.png

Info.png

Snap.png

NAS DEVICE

NAS.png

Any help will be apreciated

To make this work you have to configure the actual CIFS server, not the "root" (physical DM) server like in NDMP.

So when I use the actual CIFS server it works fine.

Hello Gajardo,

Would be possible to upload the full logs with increased debug level?

- daemon.log from NetWorker server

- rendered nwnassnap.raw ( run the backup test with Application Information NSR_DEBUG_LEVEL=9 )

- Could you run the Snapshot Management Configuration Checker (SMCC) software and check the results

https://support.emc.com/search/?text=smcc

This are the logs attached.

It´s say "path not found" but the same path work if I use only NDMP.

Hope you can help me.

I get this with smcc:

Hello Gajardo,

If you want to configure NetWorker Snapshot Management (NSM) for NAS Configuration then I mislead you with SMCC. It does not support NAS at this moment but strictly for NetWorker Snapshot Management (NSM) .

You want to configure NAS backups right? Not the NSM for Filesystems mounted from VNX on a specific client ( Application Host/Mount Host) ?

Could you let me know which one before we continue? Can you watch the bellow and check if something missed on the configuration?

For NSM NAS backups ( demo is for Isilon but you can compare):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN6-CEE7vJ4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1n64LNizRg

NetWorker-8.2-SP1-Snapshot-Management-for-NAS-Devices-Integration-Guide.pdf

For NSM ( I think it is similar for 8.2 ) :

EMC NetWorker 8.1 Snapshot Management Demo - YouTube

NetWorker-8.2-SP1-Snapshot-Management-Integration-Guide.pdf

- Where is the NETW_NAS_Client.log file from?  I can see some "root_fs_vdm_*"  filesystems when Celerra is checked "root_vdm_10" is the only one failed to be found for snapshot.

- What is the build version of the NetWorker 8.2.1 server and what OS?

- Is always recommended to use FQDN for NAS device client, as well please check the time sync between NetWorker server and NAS Devices.

- Did you create the client with wizard or manually ? If wizard did you made any manual modification after running the wizard? Usually there is no need to modify anything if all was supplied into the wizard ( credentials, management interface, group, snapshot policy,data domain pool or SN for media NDMP,....).

Could you upload the output from the VNX commands :

server_export -list -all

server_mountpoint -list

nas_fs -info -all

nas_fs -info root_vdm_10

Yes, what I want is NSM NAS backups (NetWorker-8.2-SP1-Snapshot-Management-for-NAS-Devices)

I have view all the Videos and read the Guide, nothing help, its not clear what should be put in where for VNX.

- Where is the NETW_NAS_Client.log file from?

When you open the Group Job Detail, there is an option for Client Log.

- What is the build version of the NetWorker 8.2.1 server and what OS?

NW 8.2.1.0 Build 681 (Capacity License)

- Is always recommended to use FQDN for NAS device client, as well please check the time sync between NetWorker server and NAS Devices.

The CS is not in de domain, but is in the host file of the networker server.

I have tryed by IP or name, nothing works.

- Did you create the client with wizard or manually ?

Both ways, by the wizar and manually starting from an NDMP working client.

If wizard did you made any manual modification after running the wizard?

Yes and not. either way same result.

Usually there is no need to modify anything if all was supplied into the wizard ( credentials, management interface, group, snapshot policy,data domain pool or SN for media NDMP,....).

Could you upload the output from the VNX commands :

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[nasadmin@CS01 ~]$ nas_fs -info root_vdm_10

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

but for the actual file system is this:

[nasadmin@CS01 ~]$ nas_fs -info FSAS_Test

id        = 745

name      = FSAS_Test

acl       = 0

in_use    = True

type      = uxfs

disk=d39   stor_dev=CKM001xxxxx addr=c0t2l3         server=server_2

The filesystem FSAS_Test is mounted in a VDM (VDM_Test).

In the NDMP configuration is show as /root_vdm_10/FSAS_Test an it works fine without errors.

The client is configured over the CIFS in the phisycal DM (server_2) that could see all the filesystems mounted over it or any VDM. As I say the same configuration of credentials and save set work a the same client as NDMP and not if I set it as NAS Device.

I have tryed various save sets without success:

/FSAS_Test

/root_vdm_10/FSAS_Test

As you can see the path is right:

[nasadmin@CS01 ~]$ ls /nasmcd/quota/slot_2/root_vdm_10

FSAS_Test

The logs do not help too much. I tried to find any reported bug or escalation, nothing on this error.

I'm wondering if any path ( filesystem, directory, file  ... ) from other root path's  have the same error/behavior.

I am not a Unified person but will try to setup a lab and get my own test. I have a VNX5300 and a NetWorker 8.2.0.5.Build.510, but it may take few days.

Do you have a service request open with EMC?

if I get: "Cannot validate installation of Navisphere CLI"  what can be the cause?
