How can I manually delete a device in order to remove a storage node?

Good day,

We are running Networker version 8.1 Build 162

A few days ago one of our servers died and had to be replaced. From the web admin console, Networker reports the storage node originally configured as "not ready" and I'm unable to unmount the tape from the device in order to delete it. Since we are using the same IP address on the replacement server I am also unable to add the new storage node even though the host name is different.

Is there a way to remove devices via NSRadmin commands? I'm not very familiar with NSRAdmin therefor I am hoping someone can walk me through the commands step by step if this is possible.

Please let me know if you need anymore information of clarifications.

*My apologies in advance if my terminology is incorrect for some terms...I'm still new to networker.

Since your Storage node is not more available you will have to remove the device and the storage node with the NetWorker services down, you can follow the below steps :

Before you start make a note of the storage node name and the respective dive name as show on the NMC. All the words marked in bold are the commands

1. take a bootstrap backup of the NetWorker server (precautionary step)

2. shut down the NetWorker services

3. cd to the location of the res folder

4. make a copy of the nsrdb folder which resider within the nsr/res folder

5. Connect to the NetWorker data based using the nsradmin command -> nsradmin -d res/nsrdb

6. now inside the nsradmin prompt type this in -> . type: nsr device; name: device_name

7. type print to confirm the correct device is selected and then type delete to delete the device. This will remove the entry for the device that was configured under the respective storage node.

8. now to delete the storage node, in the same nsradmin prompt type -> . type: nsr storage node

type print to confirm the correct storage node is selected  and then type delete to delete the storage node.

10. start the services and check.

HTH.

I got it!

I used the following command to get the proper name:

show device; : name;

print type: nsr device

Then I was able to copy paste the proper name and it worked great!

Note: It needed the quotes " "

Thank you very much for your fast reply!

I can successfully get to sep 6 but then I get the following message when I type print:

No resources found for querry

I assume I am not putting in the correct device name. From the NMC, I select devices, then double click on the affected device and from the window copied the information from the "Name" field.

for example: rd=DeviceName.domain.com:\\.\Tape0

I tried using the following command:

.type: nsr device; name: DeviceName.domain.com

I also tried using the full name, i.e. rd=DeviceName.domain.com:\\.\Tape0

Here's a screenshot for your info as well.

I have the same problem.

Old infra has been removed (datadomain and storage node) and now I cannot delete device because storage node is not ready !

So I guess I could delete via nsradmin, but not sure if it is a good way to do it. Did not find anything on KB  or on the Dell site...

If you wanna try :

nsradmin

>visual

select > NSR device

Then you should be able to delete. Maybe need to remove device from pool before.

un mount volume from device : make it disable and turn off auto media management > go to disk volumes and uncheck the storage note from the volume you just unmounted > come back to devices & try to delete

@Saikat_33 Hi !

Disk volumes are already unmounted.

Devices are disabled and off media mgmt is already off.

There is no volumes (I want to remove) on the Media > disk volumes view

But I don't know where you can uncheck the storage node from the disk volumes view...

I am on Networker 19.7.0.3
