U2722DE, help with USB/INPUT switch
Hello everyone,
I decided to ask for help, since I am probably using my Monitor wrong. I bought this monitor for my home-work purposes.
Work Laptop: USB-C
Personal PC: DisplayPort to port 4, USB-C to USB-A (included with monitor) on port 7 or USB C to USB C on port 7, HDMI to second monitor
Keyboard & Mouse ports 10, 11
However I cannot manage to use the onboard switch to switch the keyboard and mouse between monitors, and I have to remove the USB-C from my work laptop to use my PC.
I tried multiple times, to change them via the on screen menu but I get an error of "USB switch function is only available when PIP/PBP function is enabled. Ensure that your input devices are connected to the monitor"
Does any of you have an ideas, what I am doing wrong?
Thank you :)
This is similar to https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/monitors/u2722de-kvm-without-displayport/647fa233f4ccf8a8de7a16c6
thats why i tried an USB C to USB C to the motherboard of PC but with the same results.

@George_e4b224b I solved it!!!
In the monitor menu via the joystick...
The USB was assigned to C1 (laptop) for the DP device (desktop) hence the conflict.
I set "DP assign to: USB-C 2" and voila 🥳🥳🥳

The function of KVM switch on a monitor is to switch the ports, mouse/keyboard between devices, laptop, PC. It does not switch between monitors.

@Chino de Oro thanks for replying.
I might Was misunderstood.
I am trying to switch my keyboard and mouse on the same monitor (Dell) . I hoped that by switching usb source I could use my keyboard and mouse either on my laptop or my pc while having both of them connected.
On the second monitor I am also switching the input source manually with the button but it's fine.

If your laptop has thunderbolt port, or USB-C with DisplayPort Alt mode, you can connect it to USB-C port #5 on the monitor. That will allow video signals and USB data from the laptop to be connected for display and mouse/keyboard usage.
If you desktop has DisplayPort or HDMI port, connect it to HDMI port #3 or DP port #4 on the monitor. Then connecting a USB-A port from desktop to USB-C port #7 on the monitor. That will allow both video display and USB signals for mouse/keyboard.
Mouse, keyboard should be connected to USB port #8, 10, 11, or 13.
When you want to switch device between laptop or desktop, use the monitor OSD menu and select input of the device you want to use. It should switch both video signals and mouse/keyboard.
For the second monitor, you can connect it to DisplayPort #6 of the monitor U2722DE and set MST function on. That will allow daisy chain connection for dual monitor setup.

@Chino de Oro
Thanks for your input.
I am doing exactly what you said already with no results.
My setup:
Work Laptop type C-C to port 5, HDMI to HDMI to input 1 of Second monitor (Second monitor does not have DP to daisy chain)
Personal Computer:
- GPU Display Port to port 4 on Dell monitor
- GPU HDMI to HDMI input 2 on second monitor
- USB C to Type C from Dell monitor port 7 to Computer Motherboard OR type C to usb A to mother board.
Keyboard and Mouse to ports 10-11
mini jack 3,5 to speakers from port 9
and with the above, whenever I have the type C connected to my work laptop I cant use my keyboard and mouse from my Personal Computer, and If I go via the menu to swith USB source, i get the error:
" USB switch function is only available when PIP/PBP function is enabled. Ensure that your input devices are connected to the monitor"
Now I am writing this as I have work laptop disconnected.
thanks

* Remove the HDMI from work laptop to second monitor.
* Remove the HDMI from desktop to second monitor.
* Connect a DisplayPort to HDMI cable from DP port #6 of U2722DE to HDMI of second monitor for daisy chain. HDMI can be used on the last monitor in the chain.
* Going through OSD and verify that MST is enable. Then test with each device (laptop and desktop).

@Chino de Oro
What I have done :
a) Removed the HDMI cables from both of the work laptop/pc.
b) tried with a cheap cable from Display Port #6 to HDMI of the second monitor to test daisy chain. Didn't worked, at all , but maybe it is the cable.
In order to eliminate any False Positives, I removed the second monitor, so now I only have Work laptop and PC and one Dell monitor u2722de.
Work lapport #5
PC with display port on port #4 and usb c to usb C to motherboard.
keyboard mouse at 10 & 11.
MST was disabled and I changed it to Enable.
No results unfortunately.
Whenever I have the Type C to Work laptop connected, my keyboard and mouse is on this laptop only. > Change Input, and I am seeing my PC, but still my mouse/keyboard is on laptop. > Change USB Switch, again same error " USB switch function is only available when PIP/PBP function is enabled. Ensure that your input devices are connected to the monitor"
can it be a software issue from windows side? Can it be a defective monitor?
who knows...
