P2422HE two daisy chain, third M27Q low resolution 680x440p

I have three (3) monitors, two (2) are P2422HE hub monitors, one (1) is a Gigabyte M27Q monitor

I am using a Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 8 with an i5-10210U @1.6 GHz running Intel UHD Graphics.

I have been using the P2422HE (1080p) monitors for four (4) years now attaching to usb-c cable to the laptop thunderbolt port and daisy chaining the monitors together. I recently bought a Gigabyte M27Q (1440p) monitor, when adding this monitor to the chain it is running at 440x680 instead of the 1440 UHD resolution.

When I connect the M27Q using the HDMI port on my laptop it displays at full resolution WHILE the P2422HE monitors are daisy chained from the thunderbolt port on my laptop. If I leave out one of the P2422HE monitors from the chain it still displays at 440x680. This is a workable fix, but I have hub monitors because I only want to plug in one cable not two.

I have tried using three (3) different display cables two (2) of the cables that came with the P2422HE monitors and the one that came with the Gigabyte monitor. I have tried updating the drivers and the firmware for the Gigabyte monitor.

My first thought is my integrated graphics are not strong enough to drive the monitor, however, as it works fine in the 3 monitor set up using HDMI I don't think that's the issue.

My second thought is that because the P2422HE is running at 1080p its causing some strange signal manipulation where its attempting to display 1080p resolution to a 1440p monitor. There is no way to make the Gigabyte monitor the first in the chain as it only has display port in and no display port out and my laptop does not have a display port connection so I am unable to test it anyways.

My third thought is that the display port on the Gigabyte monitor is not displayport in? Like how the P2422HE monitors have two display ports for in/out and it's required to be the first link. Either that or something just is not compatible between the two.

I would like to ask if anyone has attempted to use any of the the Dell gaming monitors or Alienware series with the hub monitors and if they function as intended when using daisy chaining. Incase I can't get this working if Dells options are compatible I will take the route.

Other information of note:

BIOS Version Date is 10/15/2020

RAM 16 GB DDR4

Intel UHD Graphics

- Driver date: 8/13/2024

- Driver version: 31.0.101.2130

-DirectX version: 12 (FL 12.1)

See page 34 in the P2422HE User's Guide =

Based on your results, the 2020 Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 8 Thunderbolt cannot daisy chain three monitors at those resolutions =
P2422HE 1920x1080 --> P2422HE 1920x1080 --> M27Q 2560x1440

Your only recourse is to connect the M27Q to HDMI.

@DELL-Chris M Thank you Chris! Would you be able to explain how the math works out for this (i.e. what is the minimum bandwidth I need to chain the monitors).

Thank you!

I do not know the Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 8 Thunderbolt 3 bandwidth math. You should ask other Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 8 users here how they are doing three monitors in a daisy chain. Explain your setup, etc.
