Is the 2nd RAM slot in Dell 5577 empty?
I am thinking about buying Dell 5577 but I have question regarding RAM slot.
Does pre installed RAM use up both slots or only one?

Ah sorry, I missed that. Looking at the store, I don't see a way even after adding it to my cart and clicking the view for full specs to determine the module configuration. Given that the memory line item specifically mentions that the system is upgradeable to 32GB and that "additional" memory is sold separately, my guess would be that they leave a slot open, but perhaps a Dell rep here will see this and can get a definite answer. You might also try hitting up Dell on Facebook or Twitter if you use either of those platforms. I haven't tried this myself, but I'm told they respond fairly quickly to questions like this when asked through those channels.

The memory modules on this model sits one below the other.
The empty slot basically depends on the memory purchased. If you purchase the system with 4 or 8 GB, you may get a single memory stick & the other slot will be empty.
If you purchase higher memory like 16 GB, both the memory slots will be used as there will be 2 separate sticks of 8 GB each.

If you download the CPU-Z utility (Google that name), check the SPD tab. You'll see a dropdown in the upper-left corner that will allow you to choose the slot of interest. The number of items in the dropdown always matches the number of slots in the system, so if you select a slot that shows no information, that means there's an empty slot in the system. Or you can go to support.dell.com and retrieve the Service Manual for your system, which will show you how to open it up and visually check the memory slots.

I haven't actually bought this laptop yet.
Just wanted to know whether 2nd slot is empty so that it will be convenient to upgrade memory later.
