Will a i7 7700k Work In A Dell XPS 8700?
Hey guys, I'm looking to update my Dell XPS CPU to a i7 7700k, which is paired with my GTX 970 and 12gbs of RAM. However, will the update work? I haven't seen much info or forums relating to upgrading a 7700k on a XPS 8700, so I was wondering, will it work with the motherboard the XPS 8700 has? Will I need to upgrade the mobo? And what about the CPU fan? Shall the standard stock CPU fan work? Is 460w of power an issue? Thanks for any info.
XPS 8700 (If your looking for my model, i can't find any link, but I know it came with this)
- GT 635
- i7 4770
- 12gb Ram
- 1TB storage

No, you cannot upgrade the XPS 8700 to a 7700K. The CPU physically will not fit as it is a different socket from what is in the 8700.
You can upgrade the CPU to a 4790K, but the benefits may not be worth the cost.
You don't say why you are wanting the upgrade.
