Studio XPS 8000, latest motherboard upgrade
I have a Dell Studio XPS 8000 Tower Model WHL.
What is the newest/fastest motherboard upgrade possible with WiFi
Also what CPU would you suggest?
Will my memory, video card, sound card swap over?

HDMI to DVI-D is pass thru.

You will not get sound thru the HDMI however so you need to use analog speakers.

Dell typically uses custom connectors between motherboards and front panels which makes it difficult to install a different motherboard in an old Dell case. So unless you or somebody else has or can map the front panel connections.
And keep in mind that you'll have to buy a retail license for Win 10 from Microsoft and install it on your hard drive along with all your apps.
So is it cost effective to try to reuse the old Dell case or would you be better off buying a brand new PC with all the latest tech that you want and comes with Win 10 installed?

Thanks Ron.
I did the math as you suggested and decided to buy a new Dell 8930 XPS Tower. Should be here in about a week. Thanks
I do have another question. the Dell 8930 XPS Tower doesn't have a VGA port, only a HDMI display port. I was going to use my older TH-0U0097-37171-424-00BZ, 25" Dell monitor. Here are my monitor connection options, DVI-D, VGA, VIDEO, S-VIDEO, 2-USB & type B standard USB. What would be the best to use and how would I hook this up? Again, Thanks

Thanks for the reply and the URL about the cable, but my PC has a different configuration, dual-link DVI-D female connector and has 25 pins (24+1), the cable you show has 18 pins with one flat blade?

There are NOT 2 different kinds of DVI to HDMI cable. No such thing as DUAL LINK HDMI. The "FLAT BLADE is present in ALL DVI configurations. DVI-D has less pins than DVI-A or DVI-I
DVI-A has extra pins for the ANALOG VGA connections.
HDMI is DIGITAL ONLY and its not Bi Directional.
It DOES NOT NEED the VGA Pins.
