Problem connecting AIO 2320 to an Ultrasharp 2414 second monitor

Evening all, I am having a problem connecting the above AIO to a second monitor. I assume this is technically possible despite the technology age gap. I am trying to connect via what I assume is the VGA out port (next to the ethernet port). I then have to use an adapter which connects to the DisplayPort In, on the monitor.

The AIO does its PnP thing as soon as I attach the adapter to the VGA cable out of the AIO (but not to the monitor yet). When I then plug the adapter into the monitor the monitor tells me there is no signal to the DisplayPort. The AIO running W10 adjusts the screen profile to be an extended display so everything seems to work except the display to the monitor.

Can anyone help?

thanks,

Sid.

Not a good idea to be "hot connecting" monitors to PCs.

VGA port next to the Ethernet port is the VGA-Out so that's the right port to use.

Have you tried connecting the VGA>DVI adaptor to both the PC and monitor with everything off, then turn monitor on and turn on and boot the PC last?

If this monitor has its own an On Screen Display menu (check the manual), open that and make sure it's configured for DVI input. It might be set to HDMI as default input.

And keep in mind, according to Dell, the Inspiron 2320:

Product not tested for Windows 10 upgrade

Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected.

So there may be some driver issues to contend with...

Hi RoHe, many thanks for the response. I've managed to get around the issue by juggling monitors, removing the mismatch in technology.

Thanks again, Sid.
