The 4 gig stick is obviously ECC and not compatible ever.

Ah okay so are you saying the computer only takes non ECC ram sticks?
because i tried just the 4gb ram stick without the (2x2gb ram) stick and the computer would not boot
thanks.

Ah okay, Sorry to ask but are you sure that the 4gb is ECC?
Also, i tried removing the 2x2 gb sticks and just using the 4gb ram stick and the computer wont boot, can you confirm this means that the Dell optiplex 9010 only using non ecc ram sticks?
thank you

Ah right okay thank you very much speedstep and brad for clarifying that. I wish to upgrade that ram and I'm looking online...apart from being non ECC and ddr3 are there any other requirements such as speed etc? Or can I use any ram stick that is non ECC and DDR3? Regards

It looks like SpeedStep covered this, but on this system it will only take Non-ECC memory. Most likely (as mentioned) the Kingston is ECC.
I hope this helps.

Hi Pranav,
Sorry for the delay in response, I unfortunately did not see this. I am sure you might already have an answer, but if not you're correct it will need to be non ECC memory. The speed the system shipped with is either 1333MHz or 1600MHz memory, and you should be able to check this in the BIOS, order slip, or by using something like CPU-Z etc. You will want to make sure you put in similar speed/type memory that is already there.
While we can't guarantee 3rd party memory will work, it should as long as it meets the requirements above, but if not, you can also buy the memory direct from Dell at this link by entering your Service Tag. I would think as long as the memory is non ECC you should be all set.
Best regards,
Brad
